To have taken both Washington and Tampa to OT, it feels as though we are a 2nd line and a top pair d and minus Staal to competing. Some of that might come with the maturing of guys like Chytil. This thing could turn around quicker than we thought. I mean since we started sitting Hayes and Zuc, all of Buchnevich, Vesey and Strome have kicked it up another gear and it's not just playing with better players, they are stronger on pucks and playing with more grit.
I know its not a long term solution but Smith looked good tonight. Good debut for Lemieux as well, hes gonna be a fan favorite.

Any team can beat any team on a given night in the current league.

Not only that, we didn't even beat those teams.

Lol. Okay, so we DO feel the same. I actually cannot STAND that team as comprised. Went to ECF game #2 in Tampa. Had to make that long drive home with a horrific OT loss in my back pocket. I will NEVER forgive them for that ride all the way to Pompano beach/Ft. Lauderdale area. #hatekillorn
Some team will HAVE TO win the cup, I look at it like if it so happens to be Tampa, then so be it. We will benefit from that.

Whoever your coach is should not affect who you draft. Neither should positional need. You draft the best player available based on your scouting reports.

It shows me the punishment had a purpose beyond the coach pissing to mark his territory.

Everyone who's been on his shit list (ADA, Buch, Namestnikov) seems to have a good relationship with Quinn now.

Quinn has his flaws, a lot of which I attribute to this being his first year as a head coach at this level. But, the fact that this team competes hard every night despite the talent disadvantage they currently have speaks volumes about him.

How can anyone blame the OT goal on Pionk??? He got his guy, Kucherov, when Kuch takes out Namestnikov one guy gets open. If anything Names made a mistake, he has to have his guy 3 on 3. But it’s not easy. Just think it was ridiculous to hang out Pionk for that goal lol.

I like how we played with the puck in period 2 and 3, took it to Tampa instead of letting them destroy us which they surely would have if we had became passive.

Vesey is a kid who is improving a little bit every season, in some areas it feels like he is developing sooo slow, especially his puck distribution where he still isn’t able to play that comfortable puck possession game, dishing around passes, waiting for the openings to present themselves, using smart creative options (like no look passes back to your D in a situation you know he is back there and you have 5 defenders in the picture, smart passes around the corner etc). But he is improving. He will get close to 50 pts this season, like 24+26 or something around those numbers.

From my POV, the second he could get to a level where he can contributes to his line really well with his pass distribution game he would be a pretty good top 6-9 winger.

I'm shocked at how well they have played in the 3 games without Zucc and Hayes. Scored 13 in those 3 games too.

should have moved more vets for futures, esp RD, which is not totally barren, but further away than we like

Beat the vegas over/under by almost 10 points. People who thought the Rangers would be at 73ish or worst were kidding themselves.

to do this we would have also needed to move Namest, Strome and perhaps Buch/Fast. If we really wanted to go all in, we would have to have moved Zib as well. I generally trust Gorton so far, and I have to expect he did not get enuf to go there. For the sake of a better pick selection, I would take less on the others, not on Zib.
The idea of course is get this team down to a min core of youth, which will be well set going forward under Quinn's 2019 tutelage, but lacking depth, will be exhausted and compete well, but not earn meaningless points balance of this year.

Kreider has only had an odd extra shift w/Nieves I think 1x for half a minute each of the last 2 games.
You recall I said needs enuf practice w/Kreider to get comfortable, then enuf shifts w/correct 1RW [presently Zib or Chytl] for experiment to fully work properly.

That said,
Nieves is looking better and better and his +/- documents that.

The Caps rivalry is why the divisional playoff structure is great. I wish there were more intradivisional games and less interconference games as well. And scrap the WC system, teams with different schedules shouldn't compete for the same spot.
