Meh, if he's used like Girardi should've been, ie... 3rd pair ~15:00 ATOI/Night, then I don't really care about this. Hopefully there's no NTC/NMC shenanigans so, if he completely sucks, he can be a 1st pair D in Hartford. With Smith.

He played 67 games last season. 70 gp in two years is a minimum for the expansion draft...but if I am not mistaken two year deal is needed to expose a player....they signed him for 1 year only....why???

I can't tell another cliche that's worse than "good locker room guy". A completely meaningless phrase that people in hockey use to rationalize playing awful players.

Bigger cliche than "meaningless phrase that people in hockey use to rationalize playing awful players?" Tough call.

The "lulz hockey people" shtick is just tired at this point.

never thought i'd get the honor of posting JACK MOTHER f***ING JOHNSON a bunch of times in our own gdts but here we are

I'm excited to break this out

Wow, all of you guys are crazy. We just got a top-pairing LD for $1.15. Gorton does it again!

Another fringe move that the fan base is going to panic about for no reason. Warm body veteran for a team that has two LD with any meaningful NHL experience on the roster. Known quantity to your new defense coach. Known to be a good locker room guy.

But sure, this is a catastrophic signing that tests people's faith in Gorton. Totally reasonable.
Why not sign someone who's not the worst defenseman in the league?

Do you actually have a response? Are there no actually good hockey players that are "muh lockerroom" guys too? Honestly, the guy is a hockey player not a therapist. If you can't see that I don't know what to tell you. Join us in the 21st century.

Honestly, dude, to be blunt about it, no. It's not worth a response. It's tired, non-sensical bullshit.

Eh, he's here to be the 7D/buffer in case none of the kids step up to take a spot, and at $1.15MM for 1 year, it's no bid deal at all. If he's playing meaningful minutes, the larger issue is in fact that none of the kids stepped up to take his spot.

I'd rather another guy fill the role, but I suppose his familiarity with Martin wins out.

I must say I am confused as to why the deal wasn't for 2 years to make him expansion eligible, though. (The only thing I can figure is that he wants to bet on himself and wants to be back on the market ASAP.)
