Bobby Farnham was at least fun to watch when he was here for preseason. Much rather have someone like that than a slug who can't skate.

There has to be someone available to sign or almost free in a trade that could bring the leadership and grit of a McLeod while also having some NHL level skill and skating ability.

Couldn't Belesky, who is already signed, fill this same role and be better than McLeod?

Even if you look at it as a lost year anyway, it still is not a good thing.

A rookie coach like Quinn could develop the habit of being comfortable with a player like McLeod on his 4th lines instead of running 4 skilled lines. And he'll take minutes away from someone.

On its face it doesn’t matter much. 1 year deal, teams not gonna be great, etc. But it’s more concerning on a broader level that this front office still thinks that a guy like him is valuable in today’s NHL and that you can’t get character or toughness or whatever in guys that can actually play.

Oh come on.

Cody McLeod is not going to alter the way David Quinn puts together a lineup.

Next level thinking:

- Sign McLeod

- Get him to move family and everything to the area

- Waive him

- Islanders will claim him, b/c Lou

- McLeod doesn't have to move his family again b/c he's already in the area.

- Family is appreciative of Gorton

As I said in the other thread--I don't care if we sign a guy who is bad to a one-year deal. But McLeod is bad in the wrong way, in that he has no NHL skills. Some random fourth line plug that sucks but hustles and is a locker room guy would have been fine. A dude who does everything terrible and isn't on the ice to use his one "skill" is completely f***ing worthless.

Would it be such a bad idea to have him to the AHL and play on their 4th line? By all accounts he is a great locker room guy and has a ton of NHL experience. The Wolfpack don't have a guy like him either

I see your point but I don't see how Cody McLeod solves that problem in a sensible way.

I don't want prospects on the 4th line. With McLeod, this is basically our team:

Kreider-Zib-Lias
Spooner-Hayes-Zucc
Buch-Namestnikov-Fast
Vesey-Beleskey-McLeod
Holland

Lias with Zib because I say so
2nd line has 3 passers. Not sure haha. Needs a shooter
Buch with fellow Russian Namestnikov and Fast who is responsible defensively
4th line with depth players

If a prospect like Chytil, Howden, Lettieri or Ronning earns a spot, they can waive and demote McLeod and/or Holland (best name ever on a Rangers jersey FYI)
