Confirmed with Link: Rangers sign Blake Wheeler [1Y/800K]

I agree. But I just don’t think he’s the right RW.

Don’t you loudly criticize this team’s lack of speed? We somehow just got even slower.

You also know he’s going to play next to Zib in place of Kakko.

Again, the contract is absurd value in a vacuum. This was a “can’t pass it up” deal like the Kane trade. I just don’t think this is the player we need right now.

The problem here is that you don't get good AND fast players for that kind of cap. We just don't have the money.

Did he have a down year or is he cooked? The dude is 35.

I’d have preferred Nieto. Still prefer Sprong. Players like that.

This also ensures that Lafreniere will not be getting top six minutes. Again.
We'll be complaining about Wheeler in the top six come October. It's so annoying. This organization just can't help themselves, they're self destructive.

There's also the Trouba factor. There's no way Drury and Lavi didn't discuss Wheeler's disposition with Trouba before signing him. Trouba thinks Wheeler can integrate into the room, or he doesn't get signed. Wheeler was Trouba's captain and now it's the other way around.

The C was removed because his hardass "everyone should take hockey seriously and work hard" leadership style isn't a fit with the modern day snowflake millionaire players. Are the Rangers putting a C on him? If not then I am not sure what the concern is.

Being bought out was a mutual decision and him wanting to attempt for a cup as the Jets aren't going anywhere. He gave the Jets the greenlight to buy him out if they couldn't find a trade.
The player gave the team the okay to buy him out? Haha

What world are we in anymore where people think this is reality. He was bought out bc no one wanted him even at 50 percent of his cap hit. He was bought out bc the jets want him gone and no one would take him at 4m. Wheeler didn't have a say in it. The jets told his agent to find someone to take him without buying out and they couldn't find anyone...

My nephew told me we got Blake Wheeler and I was like wtf are talking about bro. For what?

Oh…. What?

Nice.

Obviously he’s got the ability to slot up anywhere in the top 9 on the RW I just hope this doesn’t take minutes away from Kakko.

A good deal no doubt for the money based on the player but is the overarching idea of bringing him into the roster well thought out? Well see

What an absolute joke. Let's commit to a rebuild and then keep back filling to old players that can't skate but will eat minutes. what an absolute joke this org is. No direction what so ever

In a vacuum, getting an older but competent vet who just came off a 55 point campaign for basically league minimum seems like a bit of a steal.

I think the problem here is as you said. He's not what the team needs and he's actually maybe what the team does not need. Patrick Kane would seem to be faster with a bad hip.

I dunno. We will see. At least there is minimal risk.

I understand our fanbase is notoriously whiny but I don’t understand how you can hate this move. 800K for a guy who yes is not the player he once was but can still be effective and put up 55 pts last year seems like a no brained. Fans acting like we had tons of cap since you go after anyone
