what was the fiasco

Had season tickets for about 4 years. Wanted to downgrade to half a season. MSG representative said half seasons are not available. A friend of mine was able to purchase half season later that week in a higher section. I called back, upset and yelling, the rep said I would have to give up these tickets and go on a waiting list. Just because I have full season i have to give these up, and go back on a list or whatnot? I felt I should get priority if something is available and they knew I was looking, so I hung up the phone angry. That was not even the issue. It gets better, the next day, they charge my CC $17,800.00 for full season tickets. I basically lost it. I only get paid once a month, and had stuff over drafting out of my bank account. I was able to get my money back, plus interest, and they even made good by giving me some comped games. I felt the girl spited me, and charged me full, instead of the payment plans I usually took, but they said it was a computer error. Whatever I'm over it now. Took me awhile though. I guess in the end, it was ok if I look back, got to follow two teams now, and although tickets are so much cheaper down there in Florida, nothing beats NYC hockey, but you are going to have to pay.

ahh yeah I think I remember this now. I wonder if that employee got fired in the last wave of dismissals, that is some serious financial impropriety there.

Did they make you sign a waiver?

Yeah I recall signing off so I would not take any further legal action once everything was settled. I felt getting my money back, plus interest, and them throwing in some games was sufficient. It never went to court and was settled. I took my anger out on the Rangers, but really is the MSG corp and not the team. Part of me wishes the Rangers would have their own arena. Oh wait they do in Newark. :sarcasm:

Has anyone had a similar issue? Maybe not this extreme but similar?

drop dead deadline probably hasn't passed yet

I'm guessing fulls upstairs renewed at 97%+ and downstairs 85%+

half planners are a little more hairy with the pricing I'm guessing 75%+

Are half plans the same price as mini plans, per seat? For some reason I was under the impression that Half/Full were comparable and mini plans had the ~20% premium. Full and half season plans are handled and delivered by NYR season ticket services, while mini plans are MSG box office, but I guess that doesn't speak to the pricing.

I have a mini and was planning to up to the half this year, but dependent on the price per seat I can get.

Just renewed my knick tickets for next year

with the Knicks they also have a bunch of renewal prizes, I didn't see anything like this for the Rangers

You just know the grand prize winner will have a single seat in the blues.

yup, and I just assume those contests are a total fraud anyways

I've never heard the name of a single person who ever won any of those renewal prizes with either the Rangers or Knicks. No idea how they run the "random" drawing or if there's even a drawing at all. I just assume Dolan throws darts at a list in his basement and has his secretary send them a bunch of 2 for 1 soda coupons

Speaking of "random" drawings, I always wonders how people won to be on the ice for the "jersey off their backs" at the last game of the season? It seems like a big mystery.

For maybe a season or two I remember they had people nominate friends or themselves... Other than that I always figured it was reps would put folks forward. I personally don't care about jerseys, I've never owned or wanted to own one... so I never bothered to ask.

You just have to ask tailgunner if the invoice is still in his online account. When the invoice goes away time's up
invoice is still active and past due in my account...have not gotten any phone calls or emails from anyone at MSG asking why I have not renewed...I guess they don't give a crap and they are probably happy because now they can sell my playoff seats for more money

Disagree on an "eventual demise". Yes, they had the stretch of 7 years out of the play-offs. Other then that, last time they missed the play-offs in back to back years was 75-76 and 76-77. Before that, you have to go back to the mid-60s. So, in the past 50 years, only twice did they have seasons with the missed the play-offs in consecutive years and only one time was it 3 or more consecutive years.

What do you consider "blue collar workers"? Someone who works with their hands? Someone who makes less than $250K per year? In fairness to the Garden, it is not their job to make sure people of all income levels can afford their tickets. Do people complain to Mercedes or BMW that "blue-collar" workers can't afford their cars. Yes, I understand there are other options for cars, but there are also other options for entertainment. If you can't afford Mets or Yankees tickets, you can go see the Cyclones or SI Yankes. If you can't afford Jets or Giants, you can go watch Columbia, Fordham, Rutgers, Wagner, Army, Stony Brook. If you can't afford Knicks and Nets, you can go see the Westchester Knicks. If you can't afford the Rangers, you can go watch Rutgers, Princeton, Army. You can go to Trenton, or up to Connecticut to see minor league hockey.

It is an absolutely awful argument to compare professional tickets to sports games to those of cars.

Honestly, this whole argument was just so off base. I don't really feel like dissecting it all but lets just say I 100% disagree with most of what was said here.

It is quite clear the Rangers are peaking on their ticket prices as the secondary market was much weaker this year than last and they're still a very good team this season.

My invoice is also just sitting there and I haven't gotten any calls either.

update...just got an email from michelle at MSG letting me know my playoff seats are cancelled...I replied back a nice sarcastic message and asked for a proper phone call to discuss....my issue is...if my seats are going to be sold anyway to some stranger on the street, why not sell them to me since I was the one that gave you $8900 this year for the ST...frankly I could care less and I hope the Rangers can go on and win the Stanley cup on home ice...maybe me not being at the game will help

I had this same exact conversation about a week before the deadline. I even said I would pay full face value, I just want the option to buy them. They told me nope and the only way I could is if I give them some sort of money for next year (the guy used a 10 game plan as an example). I said absolutely not, especially since clearly there is no loyalty anymore and what would stop them from screwing me next season if they so please. His response to that was "this is a transition year."

Is that even legal? I thought that as a season subscriber you had right of first refusal to purchase your same seats for the playoffs. Seems a stretch to say if you won't be a subscriber next season you are no longer entitled to a benefit for this season, no?

That's what I thought and I explained it to them. I said they are very likely opening themselves up to legal action. I also forwarded them my renewal email which advertises as the first point first right to purchase playoff tickets. I'm fairly certain it would fall somewhere within false advertising, but I'm not going to waste my time or money fighting them over this. Hopefully it bites them, but what can I do.
