I really don't see how you can so definitively state this. The increase in interest and prices has come in tandem with the best team the Rangers have seen in their history. What happens if they miss the playoffs 3 years in a row----we truly have no idea.

I really do not believe that if the Rangers end up in the bottom of the conference again that people will be paying $100 on average per game for upper tier seats.

I agree. i've had seasons since '93-94. I've lived thru those jagr, lindros, holik, drury, etc years. Things are not different this time. The team had the good fortune of a great run with GQ Hank but IMO Hank and the team already peaked and the perfect storm of a declining Hank and team is in the near horizon.

Unlike 10-15 years ago when prices were reasonable and tenure rewarded with better value location opportunities, the current MSG management has completely destroyed that premise with greedy price increases and maxing out each dime of profit thru repricing of any categories of seats that have room for margins. Many long time STHs either will not choose to or cannot afford to loyally suck it up for the next cycle of team mediocrity or rebuild.

Just two years ago I probably would have agreed with you guys, but I say the above based on experience with the Knicks. I realize that hockey is not basketball in NYC but it used to be that when the Knicks sucked the place wasn't selling out and tickets were going for 5 bucks on the secondary market. Now the Knicks are so much worse and the future is bleaker than ever with 0.00% of a Championship in years, yet tickets never go under like $75 with all the fees. They sell out every game at high pricing - the only way to explain it is the renovations and the tourist/corporate dollar.

That's why I predict that even if/when the Rangers are bad, the place will still be sold out. I'm sure tickets will dump on the secondary market but they won't ever get to "cheap" levels on a consistent basis. Downside is limited based on MSG's status alone. Personally, I'm keeping my tickets until I lose money on them in a full season which I define as having to pay more for my subscription than I could otherwise get tickets for on the secondary market or at the box office. I was expecting that to have happened with my 200's already but to my astonishment there's people willing to pay up to $300 for regular season games. If I sell one game like that I get to go to two other games for free. Of course I lose money in November in October but overall it works out. With these price increases though and the Garden renovation effect wearing out I can easily see myself dropping those seats if the team gets bad

Thank You

Just wanted to say thanks very much to you and to ltrangerfan for updating the playoff prices and the 2017-18 STH cost for Gallery Seats in Row 2 of the Upper Bowl Center. This year, I purchased about 20 games from a STH in exchange for one playoff game per round (at face), and -- since this guy is only an acquaintance (not a friend) -- I just wanted to make sure that I was informed about the pricing. Thanks again, and LGR!!

That's a good point on the Yankees, they kept prices on the bottom (relatively) low whereas the Rangers are jacking up everything in all sections. But you're lucky to have that price point, the obstructed bleachers were very hard to get when the place opened and they don't sell them full season anymore (even in the redone version)

Edit: come to think of it, the Rangers do keep a cheap low price point too (400s row 6-7). MSG also used to sell $10 front row blues for the Knicks less than 10 years ago

Yeah that's the only reason I kept them - I've never seen them available during relocation and if I ever gave them up they'd never release them as full seasons (sound familiar?). Anyway, I don't really go to those games but give them to friends/family/coworkers, sell some and donate the dogs. If anyone wants to sit in the bleachers for a yankee game send me a pm.

If you don't renew by the 28th?

if you don't renew by the 28th I know you won't get playoff ticket rights but do they cancel your season tickets or do they keep your account open hoping you still renew past deadline.

For fulls you'll get a grace of who knows how many days before they actually take away and offer your strips to someone else. It used to be the renewal deadline was much later than the playoff deadline but looks like they really moved it up this year. So if you don't plan on making the 28th (to move into your next credit card billing cycle, for example), then you're gambling with your account. You should just call and ask your rep what he thinks the grace will be

Hey...had a long talk with my rep along with two other reps the other night at the islander game. A list some things that I was told.

Upgrades will be done in may now instead of July.
They are at 50 percent renewal already as of Tuesday night saying most people will renew the very last day
They are expecting a drop of renewal rate but not as bad as they expected.
Said most people call yelling and complaining for 2 hours and then renew anyway.
Not sure if our tickets will have prices at all on them, that particular game price, the average price or tier 1, tier 2 and etc.
They have already over 1500 people who have a 500 deposit down waiting to get season tickets next year

Don't know if anyone of this is old news or New but just wanted to pass it along

I guess I just don't agree with this. My main redeeming argument here is the market this year. Last year I would have likely agree with you, but the market is significantly softer this year and the team is still doing very well.

At the end of the day, the problem with this face value is two-fold. Firstly, people who can afford to pay for it generally can't go to every game. And second, now if they're needing to sell their games, once the team is not doing well and prices are not maintaining, they won't be getting enough money back..

Last season I made stupid money on tickets. This year that is not the case. I just don't see the market staying this strong when it is already tiring out and the team is still good. When this team inevitably hits a bad spell, missing the playoffs for 2-3 years in a row, the market will not be strong at all. And with prices where they are now for STH, I can see a lot of people dropping.

Regardless, the fact that I have this strong argument (whether I'm right or not) even more so alludes to the fact that the team should be treating their existing STH with a better attitude and more so as clients then as cash cows. You see many questioning their tickets on here and we are the die hards of the die hards. How many people are questioning? How can blue collar workers afford these anymore? Many can barely afford one game.

Again, the Rangers are treating their fans as if this market will continuously go up. As we saw with the Yankees, this will not just continue forever. And if the Rangers continue to raise prices, it will eventually crash down on them. The last two seasons price raises have been obscene.

50% seems pretty bad to me when the deadline is 4 days away.

Then what is the point of even saying they are using tiered pricing? That is ridiculous.

They have already over 1500 people who have a 500 deposit down waiting to get season tickets next year
they are assuming all 1500 people are still willing to pay that ridiculous money.

Exactly. When they see the prices they will be getting their money back.

This year will be very interesting to see how many people renew. This will be my 3rd season with (overpriced) halfs, well see if this year is the year they offer me fulls. I renewed for this season but I am on a year to year basis, once friends dont buy my tickets that I do not attend, I am done.

And those 1500 people will probably be offered halfs or mini which are even more overpriced than than fulls. I think the poeple who have had halfs for years will be offered fulls before them.

wait a minute. with all those broker seats that they have taken back and you still can't get fulls?

it ended up going to court - they didnt pull as many back as they anticipated i believe. the ones they did pull back they chopped into half and mini plans

What happened that if you dont renew you can still get tickets at higher price if you pay in full. Is that not accurate?

Doing well? Perhaps it wasn't wise to start the renewal process when the team keeps losing at home.

a bit OT: wonder if Knicks will have tier prices too? that would suck if they significantly mark up the GS, Cavs and Xmas games (and imagine if Lebron, Curry, etc get rested too?)

They haven't had the stones to raise prices since 2013-14, so I don't see how they'll have the stones to raise by anything substantial. If anything it'll be some inflation adjustor like maybe 5% but even then it would be surprising. If they keep prices flat it doesn't matter too much if they tier way up for Christmas and Golden State because then the low end will go down and it averages out.

But if Jesus returns to Earth, pigs make trans-pacific flights, and the Knicks are good again - then the price increases will be vicious. You saw how they raised the Rangers corners past two renewals (+7%, +26%), well the Knicks never raised those - they are still $49. Dolan is chomping at the bit....

Just imagine a fluke Knicks deep playoff run. If I had STH, I would just hope they stayed bad.

I'm not going to get into semantics here, but to the layman supporter who wants to go watch, a team that has a good season is one that will make the playoffs and compete. There's a HUGE difference between interest in teams that don't make the playoffs for consecutive years and one that continuously makes the playoffs year after year.

My argument is simply in regards to the next cycle of non-playoff teams this organization produces.

Two days to go until the renewal deadline. Still trying to figure out what to do with my gallery pair behind the goal (on the good end). They are actually very good seats for watching a game...but they don't sell very well, and at $119 next season I'm afraid it's going to be too much trouble to deal with. So I can drop them and be done with it...or hold on to them with the hope that this year there will be enough non-renewals that I can finally move several sections over and a few rows back. But the latter is obviously a risky play.

I assume they will let you have the PO for those this year even if you not renew them for next season?

You also need to consider that once you drop that pair you may lose the grandfathered status of keeping more than 4 seats per account which you may or may not care about (given the continuing higher and higher prices).

I believe I can get them for the PO, albeit at a higher price as per what others have posted. Didn't speak about that with my rep.

True about the max number of seats per account...but that figure rises and falls with the team's success anyway, so you can always bide your time and get more seats down the road.

I just looked at my sales history for the pair. Looks like I've averaged ~$115/ticket this season (on $103/seats). I assume I can net at least another $10 per ticket after the $16 increase next season. So the question is whether I need to deal with all the hassle to net $125 on $119 seats for the primary benefit of enjoying going to the playoffs for face?
