By the way, were concessions 50% off food on Sunday since it's an O6 matchup?

I didn't get it

And how about giving out a T-shirt instead of a white towel to wave...management has gotten worse and worse...a couple of years back they gave out t-shirts in game 1 of every round.

They have these stupid t-shirt tosses mostly in the club seats - don't they know that those people can afford their own $10 t-shirts already?

Yeah was surprised there were no free t-shirts on the seat backs like there have been the past few years for the start of the playoffs. Rangers are really stingy on the free giveaways.

They've done those light up wristbands for the first home game of the playoffs the past few years. I didn't go last night but I guess they didn't do them.

Those were cool, but are pretty useless after the game. I assume they won't give those out any more as people are likely to chuck them onto the playing surface, especially with the product they've been putting on the ice.

They may not have done a free giveaway, but they did have 50% off all jerseys in the team stores until the beginning of the game. This was there gift to the game 3 fans I guess.

I'm sure there are many reasons behind why they did this. I think the biggest factor is that these jerseys will not be used next season, and they won't be able to sell them for a lot anyway. They cleared their inventory of them, less to give away for even cheaper after the new Adidas jerseys come out in the fall.

At the last Isles home game they were selling all jerseys in the team store for $30 and everything else was 75% off. Place was a complete madhouse. Heard Devils did something similar.

Was it all jerseys or just the players they plan to dump in the offseason? :sarcasm:

I guess I missed the memo, what's new about the jerseys next year

Adidas will be taking over as the manufacturer of the jerseys, supplanting Reebok. It means they would be a different style, feel, and potentially, a different look to the jersey.

You don't think MSG would have a hard time selling a lot of inventory, plus wanting people to buy the new Adidas jerseys?

They need to get rid of pretty much all of their jerseys for next season.

When the league changes suppliers, or a player gets traded, the team isn't allowed to sell that stuff anymore, it has to be pulled from the store immediately, and usually ends up going to an outlet store or something like that. That's why they used to do the sales in the lobby as soon as the season ended, getting rid of the merchandise for all the players who were becoming free agents. If they end up signing somewhere else, the team isn't allowed to sell anything with their name and number on it anymore.

MSG anticipating the L tonight :laugh:

Don't forget that replica jerseys will not be labeled with the Adidas logo, but Fanatic's logo. So to get a jersey with an Adidas logo like the players, you'll need to shell out big $$$$$$$. The replica jersey will also fit differently.

From the sounds of it, makes me believe you'd need to actually get a game worn jersey to get something that isn't a replica.

They might make "authentic fit" jerseys, but you won't get the adidas logo on anything.

I remember shortly after the Rangers traded for Bure, I went to Rangers-Panthers in Florida. My friend worked for the Dolphins in concessions. Full-time, not a gameday employee. His company also had the contract at the panthers arena for concessions and the team stores. Asked his friend who was a manager in the team store if he had any Bure jerseys stashed "in the back". He said not only were they taken off the shelves, but they were out the door within 15 minutes of the trade being announced.

Well especially for a player like that, that doesn't necessarily surprise me. But as soon as Callahan was traded, all his stuff was taken out of the stores. They couldn't sell it anymore, not even for $5 a t-shirt.

what happens to the team's investment in that inventory? is it all a complete write off

depends on what they are allowed to do with it:
Donate and write off
sell to a third party jobber
sell to a discounter directly
try to maintain margin with sale discounts
overall run sales to drive traffic (i.e. Chase Voucher's, special game deals)

I would imagine stuff like that gets sent to stores like Marshalls and TJ Maxx. Usually they send it just outside of the state, so that people who live locally will still buy new merchandise instead of just waiting for stuff to pop up on sale racks.

I can see it happening but to me, wholesaling your stock is no different than selling it at retail. I can just imagine the GM conversation as he's ready to ship a player out "Hold on before signing the deal, first I need to unload 4,928 Gomez Jerseys to TJ Maxx"
