The Rangers need a top-4 LHD and some fresh blood in their top 6.
The Sabres need some middle-six physicality up front and a 2nd-pair RHD with size and heft.
To my eyes Bo Byram and JJ Peterka fit the bill perfectly for New York and Will Cuylle and Braden Schnieder do the same for Buffalo.
None of these players are assets their teams would easily give up, so this is very much a you-gotta-give-to-get scenario.
But I don't think it works as a straight 2-for-2 deal: the Sabres are giving up too much upside; the Rangers can't accommodate that return under the cap.
So my question is what would have to be added to make this deal work? Or is it too ambitious and something consisting of just two or three of those parts might work better?
I just really like the roster fits for both teams.
