McIlrath has always struggled at first with a jump up. Keep playing him. This team is soft as butter. Nobody hits or can protect the team. McIlrath is a huge piece going forward.

yeah - i agree. just got live with the ups-and-downs. mcilrath doesn't seem weak-minded. so hopefully he can take a little adversity and turn it into development. i'm not so sure another half-season or more in the minors is going to make a huge difference.
anyhow, i'd like to watch him develop with some ups-and-down while keeping the ranger squirts a little safer.

Add a couple more tough guys who can play, that will open up the ice for a lot of our forwards. Our defense hasn't had a hitter on it for years. Not to mention a top crease clearing guy. It's amazing we have fans getting on this kid after watching Girardi, Staal, MDZ and Moore basically stink up the joint on defense almost all season.

dude looked pretty good.. a ton of nerves but hes only 21 we got to be patient but his toughness out there is worth keeping him in there.. he'll have a lot of guys keepig heads up and making mistakes when hes out there

Hmmm, McI has not been sent back to Hartford yet? I thought this is how the Rangers organization develop their prospects!

Let's just destroy the kid before he gets started. If they wanted someone to play 5 minutes a game and fight, they would have recalled Bickel.

McIlrath was called up in get his feet wet in the NHL and provide some snarl on the team. He's a defenseman, his main job is not to fight, but play hard, hit players and learn the game. Sure, he'll get into some fights, but that's not the reason why he was drafted and I'm sure it's not the reason he was brought up to play.

I'm pretty sure he'll play some 5+ minutes a game, and AV will use him when some physical presence is needed out there.

Like when Boston plays Lucic in a bad mood, we play McIlrath.

Btw, McIlrath has a nickname, according to Pat Leonard...Diesel :D

The Undertaker works better...

I think throwing him in there without a bit of practice was plain stupid in some ways if you wanted to see him at his best and evaluate what you have. In other ways it was also very good because it lets you see him handling about as much adversity as possible, you see what his natural abilities and decision making are (you tell him to just go play his game) and you know what you have to start working on. Sure you can get all that in a practice too but hockey is different here :sarcasm: I'm so pissed I got stuck going to some party during that game and missed all but the last few minutes. With Ulf and Beuk around I think he's got a lot of good coaches who understand that side of the game an they can hopefully help develop him on the fly here. But it's only natural we will see some errors.

He said he doesn't know where the undertaker came from and prefers diesel.

I wonder where diesel came from, maybe he stinks like it when he sweats, or maybe his socks...

You know its a lock tomorrow..Mac vs Gratts...Should be interesting

it would be the end of the undertaker. Mac is league champion right now.. He is also hurt not sure he is playing .. he is the one enforcer i want the NYR to acquire.. Great in the room loved by coaches and teammates baddest dude on ice.

I've been calling for McGrattan all year...Exactly what we need

it is amazing how every team looks bigger, stronger and faster than us...Jackets looked like tree trunks out there and we have Hagelin and his long beautiful hair skating like the wind and doing absolutely nothing...the golden child...scores 5 goals in 10 games and then goes 10 games with no goals and he is untouchable on this board...I love it.

You put Hags on a team where he is better complimented by some bigger tougher player and I think you see a much more effective hockey player.

First NHL game LOL.

Par for the course around here. In general I think the Rangers fan base tends to be less patient and more negative because there is little history of a winning culture for this franchise.

Fans in New York simply don't know what a long term winner looks like.

I don't think so. Gadzic survived McGrattan, even Tostito has. Neither of those two can beat him and McIlrath most likely won't, but I don't see him getting beat down.

Wouldn't mind McGrattan as a 4th line option. He's not as terrible player as some try to make him out to be.

I don't think Dylan has much chance to win against McGrattan at this point of his career. I can see him surviving because Dylan does have pretty decent technical skills (like Prust) in avoiding getting really clobbered.

Unless you're an avid Yanks fan

So i hope he plays good defense next game. Hopefully he doesnt fight too much because it just leaves the D shorthanded. I hope he turns into a legit dman and not Carkner

he didn't win that fight but he certainly held in admirably against arguably the league's best fighter. Hopefully other teams will take notice. :yo:

Mcilrath is a very good defensive fighter, thats why I didnt really worry about him with all the fights he gets in. He rarely takes big blows or exposes himself.

If Mcgratton is the best the NHL can offer, Id say McIlrath is going to be fine
