Glad this thread is going to come to an end. Stepan IMO is the Rangers best forward. Nash may be more dangerous and get more money but Derek still led the team in scoring and is more rounded. He might not get into any games until the season starts but there's still plenty of time for practicing and everything else. We definitely need him.

Hopefully this wasn't posted yet.

I think he'll need to sustain last year's production for more than a half season before we call him better than Nash.

Thrilled this got done.

Richards should be worried as his spot in the top 6 is now in jeopardy - wonder if he plays with a little more urgency tonight.

From LB Twitter:

Stepan deal is for $6.15M over two years, Post has learned.

Plan is for Stepan, who has been skating in Madison with Badgers, to meet NYR in New York after club flies home following tmw night in Vegas

Now we can see what actually needs to happen for the team to be in line with the Cap on Monday.

If we send Powe to Hartford, we should have just over $600K in cap space, if I punched the numbers in on CapGeek correctly.

Nash has never really been a ppg player either. What Nash is mostly is a big, skilled, shifty goal scoring threat with decent defensive awareness. Stepan IMO is much like Patrice Bergeron-minus the face-off skills (though he has progressively gotten better since he turned pro) and a bit of skating. He is a smart creative player on offense and a stellar defensive forward.

If Stepan reaches his potential, I agree with you. But at this point in his career, I think he still has more to prove before I'm ready to label him our best forward.

It's really too bad that Stepan won't see any pre-season game action. Don't be surprised at all if he looked winded in the 3rd period for a few games at the start of the season.

So did Stepan really just holdout for 2 weeks to get an extra 75,000?

Silly how they couldnt come to this earlier, much earlier.

I guess Stepan didnt want to miss the parties in Vegas with the boys...Dinner should be on him.

so stepan misses the entire training camp for a little less than the deal the rangers were willing to make originally?

unless im reading that wrong...
