Confirmed with Link: Rangers re-sign Derek Stepan [2 years, $6.15M, $3.075M AAV]

I don't know that I could pick something out off the top of my head. Nor did I really have anything in particular in mind when I said that.

More has to do with my own personal bias against the guy based on his demeanor, lack of professionalism, and history of grudges/letting subjective snippets influence his reporting. His handling of virtually anything Tortorella related alone makes me lose any confidence in anything he writes.

Wasn't saying he is wrong. And I hope he isn't. Just naturally suspicious of information that comes from him.

Agreed. Where he gets a bit far-fetched and sensationalistic is why he's writing his columns, NOT when he's reporting news.

Need to pay attention to the split once the deal gets done, his salary next season will be the starting point for his next contract negotiations. I personally don't think its gonna matter because I see him signing long term at 4.5+ after the bridge
 
Brooks is the only NYR beat guy that actually has "sources" produces any real information. The rest just live tweet games, write game summary articles (with no or poor analysis) and regurgitate whatever they are told in interviews.

I'll never understand why people hate on him. He does give his opinions/speculation from time to time, but he wites a column, and that is what columnists are supposed to do. The rest of the Rangers beat is totally useless, and generally scooped by Brooks or the Canadian media.

So with Stepan joining the cavalry finally, I wouldn't mind seeing something like this:

Richards-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Brassard-Callahan
Pouliot-Moore-Zuccarello
Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett
Asham as the spare when fully healthy

As of now, I'd like to see,

Richards-Stepan-Nash

Kreider-Miller-Fast/Lindberg

Would ya look at that, the holdout was totally useless and detrimental after all. Maybe the next wave of RFAs will take notes. Sather will never blink first. Also, Stepan needs to fire his agent immediately.
 
Gross and Zip sometimes get a scoop, but it's usually related to injury news or benchings or something like that. Anything relating to roster composition, signings, hirings, and the like is almost always Brooksie.

Would the Rangers have gone to $3.2M without Stepan holding out?

And why would he fire his agent? He didn't miss any paychecks and got the best deal he could have.

Realistically I'm sure they would have loved to get him signed for under $3 mill. I'm guessing both sides budged at least some, I think Gorton even said the Rangers wanted to sign everyone and not go into the summer cap at one point

Once Kadri got 2.9, the Rangers really had no choice but to up their offer. I think this dragged out a little longer than it needed to though, as it seems like it took Stepan's camp a while to drop their demands. Either way, I'm just glad it's getting done.

After all this squabbling, they didn't even meet halfway in their demands. Wasn't 3.2 mill confirmed to be the offer like a week ago? He lost a week of camp for essentially nothing it seems. I just can't believe how long this staring contest took to end, all for Stepan to give in anyway.
 
We should boo him the first game during introductions to let him know not to **** with us then cheer as loud as we can when he touches the puck. ****ing stepan you mother ****er.

Andrew Gross, late to the party as usual and trying to join in on the fun.

I agree with the other comments regarding Brooks... he has the best sources out of the local beat writers, but his commentary and opinions can be terrible at times - "bench Rozsival and play Sanguinetti!"
