It takes two to tango and I'd rather not take sides in this pissing contest like everyone else. I see both sides of the argument. I think 3.2 is a fair offer but I also understand why Stepan's agent wants more.

Because Stepan's agent makes a percentage of whatever Stepan gets.

Until the playoffs

He led our team in goals last playoff didnt he????
There are over 20 centers making more than 5.5 million this coming year
His leverage is limited I agree... until you watch richards play.... or unless you think brassard is a legitimate #1 center.
Even if stepan isn't a superstar #1 center... he is as close to a #1 center this team has.
He is not asking for a lot. Just something close to fair compensation.
I still think he should be asking for 30 over 6. The reason that there arent many comparables is because most team lock up all their young talented core for long term commitments.
Because the rangers dont that doesnt make it stepans fault.
If the eberle and halls of the nhl were offered bridge deals as well that 3.5 number would go up.

Fair enough. Would it change your mind if it drags out until the regular season and he starts missing games?

Islanders fan coming in peace (until the season starts anyway)....but looking at Stepan unbiasedly i see him as a #1 center right now and only getting better. Now if Sather wants to nickel and dime him on a bridge 2-3 year deal...why wouldnt Stepan just ask for a 1 year deal at Sathers number and get paid whatever he wants in the open market next year?

Obviously the guy would like to be a ranger but with the recent comments from Sather should he still feel the love? Would you if you were stepan?

Various reports indicate both Stepan and Rangers are in agreement on a two-year deal. Final total expected to be in neighbourhood of $6.5M,

Fair deal for both parties.

Rangers could have forced less, Stepan IMHO, has earned more but with limited leverage and options this is a solid deal.

About time. I'm really looking forward to see what this team really can do when Cally and Hags are back. LGR

Not getting too excited yet, that's a pretty vague statement about the negotiations, weve known the numbers for some time now and their obviously working on the deal right now.

He wouldn't be on the open market. He would only be arbitration eligible but still would be an RFA.

$3.2M-$3.25M is more than the Rangers wanted and its less than Stepan wanted. Compromise. Its the 2nd biggest bridge contract for player without arb rights. Stepan plays his cards right by proving he is a 75 point center over a full season and he will be commanding $5M-$6M next time. He will get it too. The cap will be $80M.

I already told you to book it deal gets done today...
3.3 is my guess

Why because a reporter outside of the typical ranger press made a general and obvious comment about the ongoing negotiations, brooks said the same thing a couple days ago Friedman is just echoing that same knowledge, shoulda booked it 4 days ago I guess...

I'm just trying to understand what you don't agree with. Do you disagree that we can fit Stepan at 3.5 mil?

I disagree that Sather is offering 3.5, I think if he was a deal would be done.

I disagree that the Richards contract doesn't effect the situation. We'd have more cap space.

I disagree in operating in a system where you are so tight on the cap you rely on younger players with no NHL experience to outperform roster players because you have to burry them in the AHL. You should not be restricted by the cap in which you can't at any given time during the season put your best players on the ice.

I disagree that the Richards contracts and many other similar contracts to old declining players hasn't effected the team negatively where we are forced to trade or giver up younger and cheaper cap hit talent over the years.

But its done, thank god, just wish it would have been done before camp started. Now lets try and work on being able to beat the worst teams in the league like the Flames and Oilers instead of being blown out by 3 goals.

Where did he or any one say Sather is offering 3.5?
