Over the weekend, Brooks reported with certainty that the Rangers have offered Stepan two years for under $6M, but are "believed" willing to go to approximately $6.4M. He must have been a little of leery of that source otherwise he wouldn't have added the word "believed" in there.

really wish he would play tonight...kid needs to get in games...youd hate for the first game of the year to be the first time playing in a game for him.

If. If. If. If. What if its 2.95 and 3.2. We don't know yet.

I know that.

That's the point I am making here.

Holding out may have been over two issues.

Total dollars AND Structure.

The parties may have conceded on one issue and held firm on the other issue.

AAV at 3.075 is a win for Sather based on comparables so for arguments sake I am going to say that Stepan conceded total dollars and Sather concded structure as the cap will go up and the team will have more room in 2 seasons.

This is part of the negotiations that take place. Give in one area to get in another taking furture conditions into consideration.

You mean you can't just look at reported figures, the final figures, and then proclaim a winner? Damn.

:yo: so glad he signed with some preseason games left to play. he'll need them!

It sucks that he missed so much time though. Hopefully he was training hard the last few weeks at the UW. He doesn't have much time to learn the system though. I'm just happy he's back.

So did Stepan really just holdout for 2 weeks to get an extra 75,000?

Silly how they couldnt come to this earlier, much earlier.

I guess Stepan didnt want to miss the parties in Vegas with the boys...Dinner should be on him.

2 weeks for 75,000 sounds like a brilliant deal to me.

I'm sort of glad that he signed even if the changes from the original offer are minimal. I mean, sucks that he didn't play in the preseason, but I think it's better that he signed in time for the real games even if his demands weren't completely met than to have him keep holding out stubbornly when it really costs the team.

you can, the team wins here as Stepan has performed on the ice for two straight seasons at a clip better than 3.075. So for all intents and purposes Stepan will continue to be underpaid for the next 2 years and that's assuming he stays the same player 50+ point centerman that is better than average defensively.

Wonder how Matt Oates feels having earned his client an additional what $175k? Which would translate to very little for the agent when all is said and done. Solid negotiating pal.

Glad Stepan is signed.

****ing finally. Been waiting on this forever!

Now we can all go back to hating Boyle instead.

So happy this is over for a few reasons! 1) He's my favorite player; and 2) No more lengthy threads discussing what AAV he deserves, his motives, and comparisons to other players such as Bobby ****ing Ryan!

Regardless of how the payout will be defined for the next two years, Sather and company got what they wanted for the AAV at a reported $3.075 per year. They needed every dollar they could get away from the $3.5 mark to compete in a cap world. They have a quality team this year, I truely believe that regardless of the preseason results. When the contracts are prorated, the extra 0.4 will help the rangers add a player (most likely a vet forward) at the deadline.
