Sounds perfectly reasonable. Looking at the numbers, I sort of wish that they'd waited and seen they could probably have given Zuccarello a long term deal.

I think brassard is going to get too much which screws up what they can give zucc longterm till January/ next yrs cap

Pretty fair overall.

Seems extremely fair when viewed against Callahan's bridge which RB has quoted, at a lower cap number.

Glad they didn't go to the hearing.

Kreider 2 years. I'll take it! Lower cost than I thought too. Maybe I'm getting greedy but I would have liked to lock him up for another year or two. Not going to lose sleep over it.

Don't see any reason Brass and Moore can't be signed now.

It made no sense not to settle.Gorton got together with Matt Keator and Kreider and they compromised. They had to fly to Toronto. Gorton was probably there already to meet with Newport which is based on the Toronto suburbs.

Gross is so ****ing out of the loop it hurts.

There's this, reporting that arbitration was underway.

Then he couldn't break the Stempniak signing until the team officially announced it! Meanwhile, Brooks and Dreger had it the night before.

Ugh. Get better at your job, man :shakehead

Wow. I thought Gross was universally loved. While not always first, he is usually always right. Fact checks more than anyone. And Kreider was headed to Arb. in a matter of hours. So as of about 30 minutes ago, Gross was right.

Callahan got $2.3M in 2009 when he was arbitration eligible. Cap was $56.8M for 09-10. He had one full year in the NHL.

Hagelin got $2.25M last summer being arbitration eligible. Cap was set at $64.3M

They wouldn't be doing anything with Zuccarello anyway, regardless of what Brassard gets.

This deal is fine. Hopefuly Kreider can take the next step.

2 to go.

Not to derail the thread, but there are plenty of bloggers that know more about the game of hockey and the Rangers than most of the guys on our beat; Gross included. Hell, RangerBoy and a few other people on this board are better than they are.

Brooks, in my opinion, is the best guy we have right now. He's got the best sources, and really knows the business side of the game as well. Sunday Slapshots are usually a good read. The only thing with Brooks is that he allows his bias to get in the way a lot - which takes away from what can be good reporting. Might just come with the territory of working for the Post, though.

I hate our beat. Have hated it since Weinman left to cover golf.

I still think Kreids is one of the most important pieces to any high level success we have next year. This contract should essentially be a steal if he can continue to progress and start to reach the higher end of his potential.

Duh. You knew they'd get this figured out beforehand.

Side note. The incompetency of our beat writers continues anon. Check Gross' tweets.

Anything in the mid-2s over two years while avoiding the hearing process is a solid win.

Now get me Brass on a 2- to 3-year deal between $4.5-5.0MM, Moore around $1MM and sign Hayes.

Squeaking under the cap.

Brooks is fantastic when he doesn't put his blinders on. When he does, he's so biased its horrible. Gotta take the good with the bad. And just avoid his articles like the plague during a lockout.
