I really like Nils. It's just increasingly hard for me to get a true read on what guys are before they get here. Nils has been extraordinary in Sweden, but sometimes it's hard to project what exactly that means. I believe he'll be an excellent player, but I'm just not sure to what degree. I know that sounds very ethnocentric, but I assure you it's not--it can just be really hard to know how a guy who thrives in Sweden or the KHL or Liga will perform in the NHL.

Right now, Lundkvist's potential is anywhere from Erixon and Rundblad on one end of the spectrum, and Karlsson and Hedman on the other end.

I doubt he ends up as either of those extremes, but we will see.

Every report boils down to whether the guy skates really fast. It's honestly embarrassing to read. Literally go through each ranking, especially the 'chance to play.'

It's not just the Rangers, his whole schtick is like, how much youtube highlight footage has said player accumulated.

I'll give him credit, he sticks to his guns (almost too strongly, but I respect this to some one who will flip flop so that they're always right) and his work output is pretty substantial in comparison to other people in the same field.

But he falls into the same trap that a ton of people do. If a guy isn't a burner/super flashy, the evaluations of said players are so off (though with him, they're off even if they do because apparently Kravtsov has below average puck skills which is LOL.)

Thats not to say that being a burner and flashy is bad (McDavid is both and hes basically God) but when you read his eval on Lafreniere (He says speed held him back, which couldn't be further from the truth. He was very productive down the stretch considering his usage) you realize that if a player doesn't pop in the most obvious ways, most of these pundits have no idea what they're watching.

Yeah, I would bet that we get one exceptional defenseman out of Miller, Lundkvist, Schneider, and Jones and we probably have one disappointment too. I'd rank the likelihood in that order...

and based on his post-draft seasons, Robertson is right there, too

I expect Robertson, Schneider, Jones spend most season w Pack,
won't be surprised if K or Nils are there some too
(recall Kreider, DelZ, Chytil all did AHL stints after being NYR regulars,
guys like McD and Hags did a few AHL months before joining NYR for good))

In a year, it should be particularly interesting camp, and by the end of '22-23 Nemeth could be trade bait

pretty much. I too respect the hustle. But even to say Lafs skating is below average is weird. He’s got very obviously average speed, with very good dynamics and agility. Endurance, as for any teenager, could improve. But it’s just poor scouting.

I would expect Nils to become a very good and possibly elite NHL defenseman. To me his floor is top 4 defenseman. He has a problem here though reaching his full potential to become elite and that problem is named Adam Fox. A smallish 23 year old winning a Norris Trophy on a non playoff is just unheard of. A truly fantastic achievement and going forward Fox is going to continue to get the situations that Nils is going to need if he’s going to one day become a legit 1D. Fox is already that 1D and eventually the Rangers I suspect are going to go full out in beefing up the D behind him.

All that said I think Nils will be good both offensively and defensively and turn out much better than Rundblad or Erixon.

I wouldn't be shocked if Lundkvist has an Ekholm-type career. 1st pair caliber player on the 2nd pairing solely due to the depth on the team.

Josi and Ekholm to our Fox and Lundkvist.

If there's a template for a nearly complete home grown defensive corps, it's Nashville over the past 15 years.

Unfortunately they've never had the offensive depth to get over the hump

Josi
Ekholm
Ellis
Weber
Jones
Fabbro
Klein

IMO there were 4 teams in the last decade or so that identify defensive talent better than the rest: Anaheim, Nashville, Minnesota and Carolina.

I’m thinking the Rangers are fine with running Nils for a couple years but eventually they’re going to move him and the RD is going to be Fox, Trouba (with the C), Schneider. I think it’s very unlikely that Nils takes the 1D spot from Fox and the Rangers are going to maybe need someone to spot on the second power play unit for Fox but Fox will continue to get the lion’s share. If Schneider’s offensive game continues to evolve and there were good signs of that last year he might be that guy.

It wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for Nils to move eventually because Fox is in the way of his being all he can be. Not necessarily bad for the Rangers dependent on return and Schneider’s ceiling as a big body two way physical D is pretty high.

Aside from Karl Henriksson, all our EU prospects attending training camp will fly to New York either tomorrow or Monday.
Sorry, please, but to your best knowledge, this means who?
Only signed guys, or also draftees?
Do we know if it's 'rookie training camp' vs 'dev camp'?
Edstrom, Tarnstrom, Chlemar?
Vaisanen. Aaltonen, Lindbom?
Ollas? (NCAA kids often attend dev camps, but not rookie camps; if he is in, or on way to, Mass., he could come at little cost...)

Lundkvist on the 5th
Pajuniemi on the 6th
Cuylle on the 8th
Henriksson on the 9th
Korczak on the 9th
Othmann on the 9th

Väisänen and Chmelař have not received an invite.

Edström I'm not sure about.

That's what I have for now.

College players cannot join due to NCAA restrictions.

Doesn't look like Edström played for Rögle.

He was a late scratch. Not sure what the reason was exactly but considering how he was playing, it wasn't his performance.

Slim chance he was scratched due to him flying to NY but I cannot confirm that.

Thanks.
Some teams are calling their early prospect camps Development camps.
When those were held just after draft, NCAA guys attended.
With this timing, leading into big team camp, I didn't expect many unsigned draftees, but very little has come out about NYR plans, since regime change
