the defensive depth is pretty bonkers - after Staal, Smith, and Shattenkirk come off the books in two years...
and this is with trimming the list down (listed by age order).
RykovDeangelo

HajakFox

LindgrenKeane

ReunanenLundkvist

Miller

Gross

Robertson
[/TBODY]
I don't see this as bad. We essentially can pick and choose which defensemen we want to suit up and the rest are valuable assets that can be used in trades down the road. :amazed:

Tarasenko throws checks. Barbashev throws checks. Anisimov throws checks. Then there's the whole Ovechkin and Kuznetsov thing....
Zaitsev, Zadorov, Orlov, Provorov, Lyubushkin, heck even Namestnikov was credited with 140 hits last season (more than Maroon, Cizikas, Parayko, Landeskog, M. Tkachuk, Marchand - actually I'm shocked to learn this). It really is an outdated stereotype. All the younger Russians in or coming in the league grew up idolizing Ovechkin so it's no wonder they all hit. Damn, seriously? Namestnikov had 140 hits?!?

I suppose Malkin, Kucherov, Kuznetsov, and Panarin don't know how to take punishment to make a play.

Not that it's relevant to his career, as he moved to Rögle, but Jakob Ragnarsson's team Almtuna was not relegated to HockeyEttan despite finishing in 3rd place in the relegation group. IK Pantern no longer exists so Almtuna takes their place in Allsvenskan.

Yep, what I said. A enormous trade at one point in the next couple years will be made for a proven, young player in the NHL using our farm. It will be with a team that doesn't have depth. Especially on defense. I doubt Gorton will make that deal before he is confident on who his top 6 defenseman going forward with be. I think this is an enormous year for Skjei. If he doesn't wow the staff, I think he's out of here with all the depth in the farm. Especially on the left side. With Rykov, Hajek, Lindgren, Reaunanen, Miller and Robertson, losing Skjei and his salary probably will be a good thing. Especially if it returns a decent first round pick next season.

So this is equivalent to the winning team being disqualified for using a low-grade beaver tranquilizer?

and there is decent chance Day has a fuller NHL career than a number of these guys,
his career arc has not been in straight line, since granted Exceptional Player status by CHL,
and he has been in NYR system longer than all of the guys above but Skjei
(well, almost an hour longer than Tarmo)
but he is just 21, with only one pro season so far, with size and physical gifts and skating
