I don't really care if NYR lose like 2 or 3 years of development with the kid. He'll have a shot to prove he's worth an ELC and then spend 3 years of development in the AHL. Time to shine!!
Makes sense because he’s a righty. If he were a lefty, you’d want to stretch it out as long as possible, but as a RHS, there’s really only him, Keane, and Lundkvist to compete for time in the AHL (once Fox gets called up).

I’d be more inclined to agree if he was committed to a better school, but even with a project I’d rather have them play for the Knights than Western Michigan. Plus he could always play an overage year if need be

As a Ranger fan and a WMU grad I have to disagree here. Western was a bubble team for the tourney this year and will be better next year. They are a top 4-5 team in the best college hockey conference. With an excellent coach.

NCHC is a really good conference, though. Even if WMU is sort of middling, the intraconference schedule would provide great competition.

True, but freshman also dont get a lot of ice time, so basically he's going to get 2 good years of development instead of USHL D+1 and 40 games of limited minutes in D+2. Maybe long term it's better to be NCAA, but I have no problem him going to the OHL on a good developmental team.
The TOI thing is totally dependent on who comes back, and could just as easily apply to joining a powerhouse CHL program. I don't know what the outlook is for either team, whether it's this year or next, but a TOI argument is speculative at best.

He just seems like the perfect "set it and forget it" NCAA candidate. But, it is what it is. As I myself said, London is a good place to be.

I should’ve been more clear, I don’t believe WMU is as great of a spot for player development as other schools

The NCAA route is great in the way that each player can pick a org that suites him well, and not all CHL teams are the best regarding prospect development.
With Knights it should be no problem at all. Also with Skinner being drafted out of the USHL it makes it possible for NYR to yank him out of there and put him the AHL/ECHL if
it turns out bad. Does anyone have any idea how long the OHL contract will be? Thinking about going back to the USHL if OHL doesnt work out.

Yeah, and the kids also get a little more time. That used to be the biggest strength with European development too, but now kids are yanked from here so early.

Random musing I thought was interesting: Between the NHL, AHL, SHL, and Champion’s Hockey League, Lias Andersson has played in 230 professional games at the ripe-old age of 20. He is also technically still a prospect.

This is what a few of us have been preaching .. He is a warrior, has a lot of hockey in him at a young age and is 20...

I still see a bright future for him for sure, going to be a low key break out guy, I still see him following the ROR-esque path.

Would certainly be a fun team to watch. And considering Pettersson's the 4C i can't really be upset someone like Kravtsov misses

first ryan lindgren is 21 years old with 1 year of pro experience...people act like these kids are hitting their make or break year, but he could have been heading back to minnesota for his senior year .
Good point. People used to know that defenseman in particular can take until they're 23, 24 years old to marinate. Even if he lost a competition for the 3rd D pair in this or even next season he could still build value or become a replacement for a player who
Drops off
Gets injured
Gets traded
Lindgren simply improves enough to surpass someone
Or Lindgren himself could be traded after building up his own value.

Even if this season goes great, it would be silly to have any sort of definitive confidence in Skjei, Hajek, Rykov or Lindgren. All of them are at risk for what I mentioned above over the next 2-3 seasons

Plus this is a coach who frequently utilizes games off for young guys while he coaches them up.

I have little doubt that the rangers were involved in this decision and skinner didn't just decide to sign on his own. and london has been great for developing dmen...but on the surface I'm not a big fan of this move atleast initial. skinner is a bit of a long term project and seemed like the perfect guy to let go to college and let him bake for 4-5 years and hope for the best. now we have 2 years to make the decision to sign him.
I don't think this needs to be a concern at all. I'm trying to remember but has there ever been one time we needed a contract for a prospect, couldn't get one and lost a prospect as a result?
