REGARDING SWEDISH NYR DRAFT PICKS
Nils is the real deal. Will be very interesting to see what happens here. All accoounts say that he will be at the NYR training camp in the autumn - unless he is dealt (not impossible - but improbable as is now IMO) in a real big trade.

I have a feeling that Edström will marinate for one more year in Sweden and then he comes over signing his ELC. He's huge, strong and his play very much fits the NA wrecking ball style and it will be quite interesting if he can stand up to the competition there. We are going to need some cheap homegrown bottom 6 talent in a few years (which we seldom seem to develop) on ELCs, this could definitely be a darkhorse in that category.

I also think that Henriksson might take a chance to come over too, if he is offered a contract before his rights expire - that is. He needs to develop next season (more strength!). He was a bit unlucky to miss the WJC with COVID as he played with the 2 touted Top Ten 1st rounders on a line that very likely could've used his presence. Maybe he still has lingering effects?

I have very little hope left for Lindbom. Looks like a wasted 2nd rounder. Unlucky with injuries - yes - but a bad pick that early for sure. Ragnarsson (3rd rounder) and Själin (5th rounder) also seem like blank duds. Shots in the dark that missed their mark. Happens more often than not. Kjellberg was a very strange pick in itself. Reluctant to say more here (my brother actually played with both the prospects Ragnarssons and Kjellbergs fathers....).

Tärnberg and Ollas need to be given more time before passing any judgement.

Ollas is going to Merrimack which I think is still in Hockey East. That could be interesting like Huska to UConn. I see Edstrom as a potential Brian Boyle.

On moving Nils it would have to be a very big deal and I think the chances of that are kind of remote. Unless we’re bringing back a stud young center like Byfield or maybe someone like a Dylan Cozens we’re not going to get the right value or we’re going to get ourselves in the middle of a ‘can we afford Jack Eichel?’ mess. We really need I think to be able to see him at the NHL level as far as valuing or projecting his value. I think he’s can’t miss.

On Tarnstrom I really don’t know what to make of his draft + 1 year. I seriously doubt though that Henriksson is going to get offered a contract by the Rangers this summer. If he doesn’t have a very good year in 21-22 it’s over for him and the Rangers IMO.

I, for one, hope that the uncertain future, due to herniated disk, puts end to the Eichel chatter.
Flat Cap makes that contract a huge burden, if added to current deals, and upcoming extensions.
Better to find another Zib type situation, a guy who can be really good, but not bearing a team top 3 Cap Hit yet

I read BUF's board and there seems to be a divide and think this could seriously harm his numbers moving forward. And they still very much all want him there.

I'm moving farther away from wanting this kid but it is so tempting to just plug up a monstrous hole with a 25 yr old kid that could potentially be a serious beast.

I really hope they wind up snagging someone else with more dexterity, we have the pieces to make a mega move and keep our new core intact.

The battle for those two third pairing spots is going to be so much fun next training camp. Probably what I am most looking forward to for next season. I'm sure these kids know that there is some stiff competition coming in for these spots and are going to train hard this summer.

I mean, how could you not be excited for Schneider, Lundkvist Robertson and Jones at this point?

I hope they keep all these guys around for as long as possible. Just really excited to see them turn pro.
I mean honestly tho something has to give. Like you mentioned 4 guys there and that doesn't even include Lindgren Fox and KAM who are all basically locks for years to come. Not to mention someone like Trouba who is gonna be pretty tough to get rid of for the foreseeable future. I think theres a pretty decent chance one of these guys are moved for a center prospect in the offseason

I'm absolutely stoked about all of them, I just wish we had more space. They better all play a ton of games in the preseason next year so we have as much time to assess the competition as possible. Hopefully they do a traverse tournament as well.

I've been thinking about this a lot. I hope the Rangers find a way to hedge their bets a little. I'm honestly a bit worried about the durability of Lindgren. Not next season, but in the window of contention. Will he be durable enough in the window of 3-8 years from now? So, it's a calculation they'll need to make. I'd also like the competition as well - at least for the next year or two I want K'Andre and Trouba to feel the heat a bit.

EDIT: Finally, I think it's going to be important to find a 2nd PP QB as well as someone who can help shoulder minutes. It's not a coincidence that the only year the Rangers won with Leetch was the year they had Zubov. There was never another offensive D who was reliable enough in his own zone during the rest of Leetch's tenure.

Yes. The Rangers don't have to make a decision next year as some of the prospects will go to Hartford. I think decision time is in two years.

Diving even deeper, going back to January 5 of 2020, Schneider has 7 goals, 38 points and is a plus 22 in 42 games.

Despite some initial cries that we drafted McIlrath 2.0, he actually only has one fighting major since in the WHL since Nov. 5, 2019.

Didnt see those takes, but that's a scorcher.

I remember one prominent hockey blogger had McIlrath ranked like #66 and going in the third round, nothing of the sort for Schneider.
