How many times have I said over the last couple of years that, when the dust settles, Jones be one of the players who survives from among the team’s glut of defensive prospects?
Robertson-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Jones-Schneider

which doesn't mean no room for Lundkvist, Lindgren

teams need 8 D, guys miss games whether dinged up, rest day, injury , suspensions, personal leave, etc

i dont have the numbers,
but i bet teams which had 5 D each play 65 or more games (almost 80%) during a season is quite rare

if 8 guys split up a full season evenly, each would play 61-62 games

Don't get me wrong: I LOVE Lundkvist as a prospect and would love him on this team. I just think given the realities of team construction, the salary cap, and Trouba's NMC through the summer of '24, it's likely he gets dealt for help in other areas rather than stays here long term.

Likewise, if Lindgren keeps playing like he has, he'll likely price himself out of NYC. Which is why I omitted him as well.

To your point, there are still guys like Skinner, Reunanen and whomever else may develop from subsequent draft classes to fill in down the line.

Does anyone have any knowledge on if Jones is going to turn Pro or play another year of college? This may seem dumb, but I would actually hope he plays 1 more year of college.

That's excellent news. He has great talent for sure. I think that will help him be a better d-man overall. Like Fox. Thanks for the update as always AK!

I agree. He's a great prospect but has some areas to round out still. Next season we can have Robertson, Schneider, LoVerde, Crawley and Skinner in the AHL.

Jones making the jump in 2022 is good timing. 3-year ELC still, RFA in 2025.

Yeah, that will also help improve the Pack significantly, which they need. Gotta start winning at both levels. A strong Pack team fed those Ranger teams that were great for many years. It's not rocket mechanics.

I watched the Umass game (second period onwards) after the Rangers debacle, and I was pleasantly surprised with Jones. He's dynamic with the puck on his stick, great hockey IQ and threw some big hits, which I wasn't expecting.
To your point AK, he needs to work on the defensive side of things, like coverage in his end and using his body better against bigger guys. Nothing that can't be taught/learned with experience and good coaching.

Yeah. And offensively, he needs to be a bit more careful picking his moments. He's a bit too eager to join the rush at times resulting in potential breakaways the other way.

Yeah, I agree with that, but I think he realizes that he can recover and get back at this level. For some reason, the 2 teams seemed like they were gassed after the second period(UMass dominated OT)...reminiscent of the Rangers last night...maybe they had vaccine shots also...:sarcasm:

Schneider was -1 with 2 PIM.

Rempe injured still.

Garand is the backup.

Edmonton (Robertson) doesn't play again until the 16th. There's also a COVID outbreak in their division that caused Medicine Hat and Calgary to suspend play. Edmonton wasn't scheduled to play those two anytime soon so hopefully no issues there, but who knows at this point.

Pajuniemi had an assist.

Ragnarsson was listed as an extra D but didn't play.

I'm really hoping Pajuniemi can make it and give us a scoring threat on the fourth line. Zac Jones on the third pair would be awesome too. Having that type of skill on the bottom of our roster and no anchors at all on the roster is my dream.

Pajuniemi has to be traded after another strong season, we have no roster spot for him better got something back and give him a chance to make NHL with another organization.

What's the deal with Evan Vierling? Can't he get to play some games somewhere? What a total loss of a season and development.

It's up to him and his agent. He's free to sign a contract with an ECHL team the same way Skinner did.

Eh you don't know with Pajuniemi. He's probably another full year away from being NHL ready. Blackwell could be gone. Gauthier could be gone. A guy like Buchnevich could be gone. Really hard to predict what the bottom of the roster will look like in 22-23. There could be room.

Vierling could sign. If someone offered him a deal he could take it. The Rangers could help broker it. Who knows with him? Maybe he has a medical condition that makes him high-risk for COVID and he decided to sit out the year. It's obviously far from ideal but not a fatal blow to his prospect status or anything.

Pajuniemi might not be NHL ready, but he will turn 22 by the start of next season and he doesn't have too much to prove in Finland so I expect him to start in AHL next season.

I am surprised there is no info on Vierling, really sucks he lost full year I was probably more excited about him than Berard.

Would any team be interested in Rykov? We definitely have no room for him.
