Monthen was in the stands, should bode well for OLs shot at making the WJCs.

Is there any possibility that Rangers players, having a respected organization and well-connected European staff advocating for then, might get some "fringe benefit"? In terms of playing time, for example? Not saying the players get propped up, but maybe the first shot at winning a spot on a national or higher tier team, for another example. Or is this a crazy thought?

There is certainly a dialogue on all levels. But any occurrence of real impact is probably sparse. Maybe @BBKers has better insight?

@ManUtdTobbe would explain better as to why that is very wrong. Id say Allsvenskan is in between ECHL and AHL, leaning closer towards AHL.

Liiga is between ECHL & AHL, Allsvenskan is below that, Mestis below that.

If you want a great example, let’s look at Robin Kovacs.

His draft year, he was the leading scorer for AIK. D+1, scores at an even better rate. Comes to Hartford, scores 12 pts before heading back to Sweden.

Currently a 3rd liner in Luleå.

Singular samples are not always examples. They're outliers too.

All that really matters are how good of a player a kid is, stats is at most an indication. I also don’t think you really can compare leagues like this any any meaningful way. They are just very different animals.

The level of hockey in Allsvenskan is still very solid overall. During the 2012 lockout many NHL players played there (the SHL only allowed full year contracts so they couldn’t sign there), and it was a bit of a revelation. Guys like Kopitar and co of course stood out, but for Anze that meant 34 pts in 30 games. Not like 60 pts in 30 games. And I think he had the best production of all NHLers. Bobby Ryan, Hagelin, Landeskog, HÖrnqvist, Cam Fowler and 20-30 other NHLers played there.

There are certainly a bunch of players in Allsvenskan that wouldn’t be stars in the ECHL. But OTOH, Allsvenskan is from top to bottom made up of optimized teams results of being built over many years. Nobody is rebuilding, if you suck you are demoted and if you win you are promoted. All train really seriously, all year, and the results are an environment that is really hard to expose.

I think Allsvenskan and the Liiga are good development leagues because they bring that element, but they also offer a wide range of quality of opponents. There is probably a 1:10 ratio in budgets between the biggest and smallest organizations.

Pasternak scored at a .666ppg rate, Kovacs at .538. That is not insignificant.

Biggest budget in Liiga is €3.16mm, I think the smallest is €1mm. Allsvenskan will probably be more compressed with Leksands up.

Allsvenskan & Liiga are good development leagues because you can’t buy your way to promotion(look at AIK last year) or titles, but you really need to be killing it if mature, be doing rather well if draft eligible.

He thinks every scrub is a top half player whose value is showing gifs but without being able to project actual value.

Dirty little secret: most of these guys aren’t making the show. The easy choice is that most of these cats don’t make it.

As much as I like Joey Keane., I’ll be amazed that he’s more than a 3rd pair D unless expansion allows him a deeper role.

As much as I like Nils Lundkvist, is he ever breaking top 4? He would have a chance once Staal goes away, but Miller is a more likely option and Sean Day is a better 3rd pair option(and I know the Rangers staff have Day on their sh*tlist for a reason beyond actually watching him play. )

wtf does nils lundkvist have to do with staal and day? should probably know that Nils is a RD and those 2 are LD before bashing others for their projections of players...and day might not even make hartford's blueline

Watch a game and then tell me Lundkvist doesn’t play on his off hand at times that aren’t infrequent.
