All this talk of Riley Hughes, put some respect on my guy Eric Ciccolini. Techincally “fell” to the 7th, and has 7 points as a freshman on a fairly low scoring team. Talented kid.

I actually really like the Ciccolini pick!! Came into the draft as the league MVP, be it a lesser known junior league. Is also a true freshman & selecting that in the 7th round is pretty huge. He’s gonna need all 4 years, but a worthy gamble!!

Other than international tournaments a couple years back, Lindbom has never really stood out. When he's healthy, he's been...fine? I don't think he's a bad prospect, but I don't think he's a particularly good prospect, either. And honestly, the injuries are becoming a trend. Which is a problem.

The other frustrating part is that Annunen was taken shortly after him, and he looks like a stud. Prosvetov and Hofer are looking really good as well. Of course I would have picked Skarek, who is struggling a bit in his NA debut, so who knows (I wouldn't have picked a goalie until much later, however).

Anyway, hopefully Lindbom puts it together. Goalies can take a while and we're in no hurry. Though, honestly, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if we never signed Lindbom.

Yeah, I remember being incredibly underwhelmed when NYR selected Lindbom in the 2nd. I wanted Skarek & Prosvetov, too but way later. Injuries haven’t helped his case though, but he’s been okay when healthy. As a 19 year old in the SHL/Allsvenskan, it’s tough to maintain playing time. Just got to stay healthy.

Shit happens, let’s just hope NYR doesn’t do that again....

Did a Torpedo company stop sponsor them or a Dynamo company start sponsor them?

Russian Railways is the sponsor / owner of the franchise. They also own / sponsor other sports clubs that typically take Lokomotiv as their names (e.g. Loko Moscow in Russian Premier League football). Not sure where you got Dynamo from.

Gross scoreless, late.

Skinner scoreless, late. 2 assists in his last 14 games and an even rating. I still think he should have gone to college.

Anyone have any thoughts on his signability? Could the rangers do anything contract wise that would give them an edge? Like giving him an ELC early so he gets to FA a year earlier for example? Does Wall want to go pro ASAP?
Do we think there would be a role for him in Hartford next year?

They could sign him and have his contract start this year, but it won't affect his free agency status since he is 21 (turns 22 in 4 days). He'll hit free agency at age 27 regardless (assuming he doesn't refuse to sign with us and becomes a UFA that way). The only benefit there would be is that his ELC is up quicker.

We could offer him performance bonuses, but the odds are very much against him earning them, since he's likely to spend the first year or two at least in Hartford.

We'll see what happens with Georgiev. If he gets traded, that opens the door a bit for Wall, as he just has to compete with Huska then for the backup spot once Henrik retires.

Good point. Not necessarily a reason to move Georgiev but having a nice cushion makes it easier, indeed.

well typically 6th round picks don't get max ELC deals with bonuses so technically you might be able to offer more on paper but that becomes irrelevant if he isn't in the nhl.

but really our biggest selling point is benny and how many good goalies we have produced we've become a mini-goalie factory....you point to guys like talbot, raanta and maybe soon georgiev that become nhl starters because of the rangers and they ended up getting paid with another team but they don't get there most likely without being here first. so it might not look like the most direct path to the nhl, but its a proven path.

the other selling point is the big picture of our goalie logjam...right now you look at lundqvist, georgiev, shesterkin and huska and that would put Wall in the ECHL to start. and obviously he could look at other teams as giving him a better chance to make it. but really how long is our depth gonna be like this? right off the start 1 of georgiev and lundqvist won't be here next year. one way or the other one of them is gone...so now a spot has opened in hartford. and there is also a chance that we trade georgiev and then a year or so later hank retires and then we are left with just shesterkin and huska. so imo the logjam is short term.

Also the Rangers can point to a track record of moving guys into better roles and not being career killers. If it’s not happening for Wall ‘here’ in a couple years it’s safe to say the Rangers will (try to) accommodate his aspirations.

Just bring Allaire when you are meeting with him. Tell him this is the guy that's gonna make you a true pro and an NHL goalie.

I'd also bring pictures of Talbot, Raanta, Lundqvist, Georgiev, and even Valiquette and say he turned these guys, none top picks, into starters or good backups, and in Hank's respect, a future hall of famer.

There will be an opening in Hartford because Shesterkin isn't going to be there next season.

Now whether Lundqvist-Shesterkin, Lundqvist-Georgiev, or Georgiev-Shesterkin in the NHL is another matter. But there will be a spot for him in Hartford, if he wants to sign.

Haha. Like, place framed glamour shots of all the successful smiling goaltenders around the table?

Barron was scoreless last night, and I missed the game live but I watched this morning and he was did everything but show up on the scoresheet. Set up a 4-5 grade A chances that didn't get finished and had a couple good shots. Tbf RPI isn't very good and the 3rd was pretty sloppy.

I wasn't focused on Kjellberg but he didn't really stand out to me vs the rest of his team. Seems like he's eventually going to a very solid college player but I'm not sure I see him getting signed ever.

Bring a pick of Nikolai Khabibulan, too. That was the first goalie that Allaire is known for really helping!!

Just remembered I promised to report back on Pajuniemi's home games...

He's frankly been fairly underwhelming in the past two, even though he did equalise the latter in the dying seconds of the game. That was into a gaping net, but a nice effort nonetheless as he had to make a superman dive to get to the puck first.

One thing I think has gone unmentioned about him is his attitude. He gets visibly frustrated when the team is not doing well (which is almost all the time). He bangs his stick against the boards a lot, shakes his head and just looks generally pissed off. This can of course be both good and bad. He has a huge drive to win and generates a lot more toward the end of the game when the team is trailing. Then again he also forces plays and can get a bit selfish with the puck.

Watched 2nd and 3rd periods of Wisconsin/OSU game. K'Andre played pretty well.

That said, he was on the ice for a goal against where he was just a bit too passive in front of the net. Which is a continued issue for him that has a fairly simple solution. Because after that goal, you could see he played with more snarl in and around his net and was noticeably better. He just needs to claim the space. He's gotta start treating the space around the net as his office. And just make everyone pay for coming into his territory. It'll force him to be more active in the areas he's trying to focus on.

You can see he's trying hard to stay in proper position as often as possible. But he's still having recognition issues or is just getting flat flooted because he's trying to stay in a spot as opposed to being more active.

You could see towards the end of the game, when they were down, he activated and was suddenly playing up in the offense a lot more. Most likely what he was doing as a freshman. And you could see his skating and skills immediately. Point is, it was such a stark contrast to the rest of the game, that you can tell he is purposely staying at home trying to learn how to play D and that's likely effecting his production more than anything.

A few last observations about the game:
1 - Shift lengths at UW are ridiculously long. Usually over 1 minute. Often 90 seconds. Occasionally approached 2 minutes. And I think it's the cause of a lot of bad habits.
2 - UW's systems are a bit too loose. They look like the college equivalent of the current Rangers team. Young forwards trying to do too much, not supporting enough. Their D corps seems to be their strong suit this year.
3 - Lastly -- K'Andre was on the 3rd pair last night. As one might expect, the longer shift-lengths meant slightly less ice-time for the third pair and Miller during 5v5.
