Schneider and Robertson are playing in the WHL (with Rempe and Garand). In the OHL it's Cuylle, Skinner, and Vierling.

I have heard rumblings about the OHL and banning hitting/fighting/scrums for a few months now but have not heard it in relation to the WHL.

It’s so dumb that it’s scary. Riding a bus together as a team, sitting in the same warm sweety lockerroom, that is about as risky as it gets from a Covid-19 perspective. Practice facilitates, one team used a lockerroom, in comes another team after it, the air and all surfaces are soaked in virus if a few persons infected just spent an hour there. But hitting on the ice?

I am allergic to these things.

Tarnstrom, despite lining up at 2C and AIK (J20) scoring 7 goals, was without a point. He's now 3-3-6 in 11 games. Coming in he was seventh on his J20 team in scoring and while stats haven't been updated, he's almost assuredly lower than that now. Still a small sample and early and all of that, but highlights by he was seen as a bit of a later-round project pick who has some skills but doesn't really stand out when you watch him.

Obviously hoping for the best with him but from what little I've seen, he looks like JAG even at the J20 level.

11 games is a minuscule sample in itself but more importantly (to me) is that I will try to adjust my perspective to view this season as if it were Tarnstrom draft year, rather than D+1. I will do the same for Vierling and Berard.

Tarnstrom had 34 points in 41 games last season in J20, so you'd at minimum like to see an improvement on that. Henriksson for comparison had 49 points in 45 games at age 17-18, and then 41 points in 27 games at age 18-19. So, hopefully Tarnstrom picks it up. The one thing I don't like is guys with stagnating production (or worse, regressing production).

Usually im pretty content with who the Rangers wind up taking, even when I have a particular guy in mind. It happens every year. But you get a bit of a sour taste in your mouth with the Gropps and Lindboms, not always because of the player but whos still left on the board. That Tarnstrom pick, its nothing against him as a prospect, you take the guy in the 3rd hoping he breaks out of the SuperElit, while Nybeck is somehow falling all the way to the 4th, 20 spots after, whos already obliterated that league for a couple years now. Like I said it's not a slight on Tarnstrom, I'm sure they liked that hes a center as well, it's just that Nybeck falling that far was like seeing DeBrincat slip into the 2nd. Adding an Arvidsson type, quick little energy dude that can score a bunch of goals would've been sweet

I wouldnt be concerned if AIK was awful as a whole. But he’s not even top5 in production on his team.
He's like 7th or 8th in points per game there. Again I'm not killing the guy, but you want a player in J20 to at least be a standout on his team in his D+1 season.

4 SOG or shot attempts? I think in Liiga they track attempts but I’m not 100% sure.
Yeah in both Liiga and Mestis they track shot attempts, which I realized a couple years ago when Tarmo Reunanen had a couple games with "12 shots" and looked deeper into it. That's why in the stats table I don't list SOG for the Fin-league guys since I can't find that stat.

Kravtsov was scoreless with 3 SOG.

Rykov dressed for CSKA and had 6+ minutes in the first, which is positive for him. They're at the first break.

Tarnstrom (J20) had a goal and an assist.

I watched the Traktor game that they lost. Played against a tougher competition than before and it showed that Traktor needed at least to raise the team’s compete level. Metal might not be a better team on paper and hasn’t played well the week before but they weren’t letting Traktor any time or space. The whole team played very predictable without any creativity. PP development was inpatient from attempts to enter / take the zone to puck moving and taking shots.

Kravtsov wasn’t any special - some of it was on him and some on his teammates.

Shout out to Jacob Ragnarsson who picked up an assist for his first point of the year. He's at 0-1-1 in 10 games, +4 with 10 PIM. Only 4 SOG. Offense was never his calling card, though.

WHL to open Jan 7th. Regular season games will only be between teams in your somewhat modified divisions, so 3 of the 4 divisions will be playing the same 4 teams the whole time....Good news that Schneider is in the 7 team division so he’ll play 6 different teams.

When is the WJC supposed to start?

And I am guessing Canada is too deep for Cuylle to even get an invite to camp.

it starts 12/26

Canada invited Robertsson, Schneider and Garand to their camp that starts on Nov 16th...Cuylle not in the mix.

Cuylle was a project pick anyways from a guy who plateaued last season. He's chosen for what he might become, not what he currently is.

This is true for the offensive part of his games.

Cuylle was kid who was originally see as being more in the Matthew Tkachuk mold, but it didn't come together like that for him this last year.

One of the things I am seeing is a prospect who needs to flip-flop the approach a little bit. Whereas he was originally see as a scorer who would add physicality, I think his best bet is as a physical presence who can add some offense.

In that sense, he's more of a complimentary player than maybe the play-driver he was originally pegged to be.

And t his credit, in his interviews that is the way he describes himself. Probably unlike a player like Miller or Dubinsky or someone like that who came in to the NHL and had to 'figure it out', Cuylle seems to understand the niche he must fill

Reminds me of the Ethan Werek pick though ideally he'll end up much better than that.

I will say that I think he's a better prospect than Werek, with a more clearly defined path at the same age.

Whether that manifests itself into the type of player I think Cuylle is capable of being, remains to be seen.

c'mon guys , be fair -
Werek is a leading guy on a team featuring NYR legends Danny Kristo, Ryan Sproul, Josh Nicholls

Good for him.

I'd watch the KHL during this NHL offseason but it's hard to find on TV, and picking a team to support would be challenging. Lokomotiv probably because of their history, but I'm still waiting for us to get Tkachev somehow.

I think that Tkachev you're referring to is with SKA now.
