Post-Game Talk: Rangers @ Lightning 2/2/13 "Rick Nash still hasn't scored on a shot WTF!!!"

Forget the goals. Anisimov is trending on Twitter unlike Nash. We have officially lost this trade.

I still can't believe Stu Bickel is actually a New York Ranger. I couldn't believe it last year, I couldn't believe it in the playoffs and I can't believe it now. He never looked anything more than passable in Hartford. I can't believe he plays forward, even on the fourth line for a couple of minutes a night, for the New York Rangers. Get him out of there. Call up Mashinter.

And by the way, I know there is always a lot of hate for Gilroy on these boards, but he has looked more than adequate. With him playing with Stralman, I think we may finally have a real 5/6 defense pair. Makes a big difference, Girardi and McD didn't look dead by the end of the game.

I like Gilroy.:) He's a decent player with very good character.

I just watched the game and like you all said, it was a much needed win. Glad the 2nd line stepped up and Nash scored a Nash-like goal. Biron was solid and hopefully, this will continue.

I didn't think McD was awful but nothing about his game seemed particularly impressive. Especially not the 2nd period.

Surely you're on crack, because the consensus on here after he was called up was that he was magically a great defenseman in the AHL.

Looked like last year's Rangers.

Amen, when it was 1-1 in the 2nd I made a mental note to post about that even if we lost.

If we play like this in away games, we will get our fair share of pts. It don't say anything about us as a contender, but if we can play at this level the PO's sport shouldn't be in danger (and lets be honest, in this shortened season, you can create all kind of trouble for yourself with a slow start, so just getting pts on the board is also very important).

Solid away game last night! All three goals were scored by players who "needed" them. Our 2nd line was the best of the night, and that's a line that has played well for quite some time so it could be huge for them to getting some spotlight after this one. No complaints on Torts after this one, and I wouldn't have had even if we had lost. This is ONE type of game that you need to be able to play, and we got it done last night and hopefully that won't change for the rest of the year. This won't necessary mean that we can play a dominating game at home or handle other type of teams in this league, but we will get our fair share of pts on away ice against teams like Tampa.

I am impressed by Halpern, Hagelin and Pyatt this season. Halpern just got more jump in his legs, for a player his age, than I deared to hope for. Pyatt is playing like a slightly below avg 2nd lineer, but still as a 2nd lineer. Hagelin came in wrong in the first couple of games, and has obviously been really snakebitten for a couple of games -- but he is more or less carrying that 2nd line. If he get hot he could get really hot.

Ashan, Hank and Girardi has been the negative suprises for me so far. Asham especially is a lesser player than I expected/prediceted/hoped for. Little or no speed. No forechecking prescense. Hank is the leader of this team, but carried the team early on. GIRARDI has been bumped back to the third pairing, and on a remarkable amount of goals this season he is infront of the net, looking at the puck, with someone open infront the net. He is also OFTEN beaten for odd-man rushes and what not. Hopefully its something passing.

Halpern was flying and Staal stayed really solid

I thought Halpern played a good game and showed some bursts of speed. I don't mind keeping him on the third line.

I couldn't agree more.

He got more jump then I expected from a player his age.

It might not be Torts melody, but being a four line type of guy, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing this when Cally gets back (with Ferrerio being an option for Kreider of course):
Gabby-BR-Nash
Hagelin-Stepan-Pyatt
Kreider-Halpern-Callahan
Asham-Boyle-Rupp

Like Gilroy/Stralman pairing a lot... if Torts can give them 15 minutes a game, that leaves 45 minutes for the top two pairings.. ideal, no monster minutes for any of the top 4 dmen!

I thought last year Bickel was solid on defense a lot of the time during the season, but kinda crapped out in the playoffs. This year he's just been bad on defense, and he's somehow even worse at forward. His positioning is horrific

That said, it's not really his fault he's bad at forward, it's not his natural position, but he has lost his defensive job to Matt Gilroy at the moment, and that should give anyone some pause. He needs to figure it out quickly if he wants to keep a NHL job

Regarding Gilroy, he takes some chances rushing the puck and going deep in the offensive zone that I don't think are advisable, but generally looked remarkably solid. If he can keep that up on the third pairing, that's adequate. Wouldn't want to see him out against another teams top line though

I am also really liking Pyatt's game. Good on the forecheck, an above average skater with a big body, and provides some decent offense. That was a great pass to Hags last night for his goal.

"Callahan is a third line grinder" finally coming true guys. We need to celebrate when the time comes.

Hey guys, Flames fan coming in piece.

A quick fantasy question, McDonagh is an amazing top pairing dman, but hasn't recorded a point yet. I have him in my pool, does it look like he's about to breakout and what's a realistic projection for him this season and next year over 82 games?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Hey friendly face from anutha fanbase! McD is a top notch D-man in this league and put up some points last season. I wouldn't add him to a fantasy team solely for his point production though. I believe other stats factor in as well like +/- (don't count on him for PIMs) he'll come around, he's been solid this year so far and has made some great plays but hasn't found the scoreboard just yet.

This season I'd have him at:

50gp 6g 16a 22pts

That's being generous I think. He's more of a shut down guy. He's also -3 so far this season, but that will change soon as the Rangers start shaking off the rust and getting back to form.
