Post-Game Talk: Rangers @ Lightning 2/2/13 "Rick Nash still hasn't scored on a shot WTF!!!"

Good win. To my mind, this is the way the Rangers need to win. Grind it out, ain't pretty, good defense and goaltending, timely goals.

Nash goal was beastly, but Rangers don't get many ofthose.

Oh, and Tampa didn't look tired, they're a young team except for Vinny and St. Louis, this one was a Ranger win.
 
And by the way, I know there is always a lot of hate for Gilroy on these boards, but he has looked more than adequate. With him playing with Stralman, I think we may finally have a real 5/6 defense pair. Makes a big difference, Girardi and McD didn't look dead by the end of the game.

I agree completely.

And I hated Gilroy more than maybe any Ranger in the past couple of years. He's been playing well, though, and he+Stralman don't make me **** myself with myself with fear when they're on the ice.
 
I agree with the comments on Gilroy. He played a smart, compact game and did what he should.
That is nice to see.

Gilroy only played 9 mins. Torts needs to get him some more minutes in as I believe there is still some untapped potential in his game.

I thought he was steady today. If he can sustain that all season long, we'll be golden.

If there were just a way to infuse Hagelin's skating with Stepan, and a way to infuse Stepan's puck handling with Hagelin.

Have them room and practice together.

Great team win.

Looked like last year's Rangers.

Pyatt was wonderful on the forecheck, but looked confused offensively. We'll see if his start was over performance, and he's really simply a great 3rd liner, or if he's ready to make a jump to top 6.

Hags had as solid a game as he's ever had. Hopefully Kreider getting healthy soon will light a fire under him, knowing he's got competition for that top 6 spot.

Gilroy found his opportunity to stay in the NHL, and he slam dunked it. If he keeps this play up, our D is set.

If StuBick is going to play forward on the fourth line as a big body fighter forechecker, that's fine. I'm not expecting much. Penalties from some one in that role are not acceptable, especially when they're not adding to the team in some other way.

Asham looked less ******.

When Bickel played defense (if you can call it defense), he played 3-4 minutes a game.

Even as a fourth liner, Bickel looks lost. He just can't handle the puck. He needs to be scratched exscept against big teams like the Bruins and Devils, where his toughness can be an asset.
 
Was it just me or did McDonagh look awful tonight? Cant remember the last time he looked that bad.
 
I had a feeling that we would win earlier today, that was erased by the Bickel penalty goal. Great game by the second line. Outstanding effort by Biron.

I wish we saw this offensive pressure in every game and oh my does Stamkos shoot bullets with laser accuracy.
 
What about that top line? Do we keep that together? I know Nash potted one tonight, but that was a goal that came from his teammates, that was a single player effort. If Nash were off a quarter of an inch, that line would have been completely held back the entire game. The secondary scoring was there tonight, but can we continue to rely on a single line for scoring?

You know that once this team falls behind, no line is safe.

I think he still scores if he's even a whole inch off. lol

That said, I think Nash and Gabby should be broken up. But Torts seems to be sticking with it for now.
 
Also, at present our forecheck, in contrast to last year, is at the moment without Callahan, Dubinsky, Prust, and Anisimov.

Cally will be back, and Stepan has gotten better, but I think we've already seen the impact this has had on our PK

Props to you for not continuing to harp on the negatives after a positive win, even though you're down on the team.
 
I hope that the idea of winning games simply by collapsing inward in front of your goaltender is losing favour.

Get the puck. Take it up the ice. Pass the puck to the guy who is not covered, and he will pass the puck to the next guy who is not covered. Shoot the puck at the net.

Agreed. I also think they're going to learn this by default. We don't have the same shot blocking personnel of last season so they're going to need to adapt.
 
Forget the goals. Anisimov is trending on Twitter unlike Nash. We have officially lost this trade.
 
The Pyatt-Stepan-Hagelin line was outstanding tonight.

Easily our best line. And Biron made key saves.

Nash with the Nashty goal, and we actually got our forecheck going.

Solid win.

No disrespect to what is recognized as the Rangers trademark, but I do not hold shot blocking to the nth degree in the same regard as some other aspects.
To be honest, I am quite okay with less shot blocking, and would welcome more focus on good puck support and passing up the ice and getting into the opposition zone without necessarily dumping the puck in.
