NYR were dominated tonight, lucky and opportunistic. The Lee non-call was a mistake. Deservedly so, they blew a 3-1 lead in 5 mins.

Was the first Isles goal skill or luck? I agree, it was a bad non-goal call. Refs are atrocious and have been all year. Believe me we know. The Rangers have the skill to be opportunistic and great goaltending to go along with it. We got the 2 points and thats all that matters.

Dude and your point is what? You got beat by a goalie who stood on his head as he usually does vs your Islanders as he is your kryptonite.

What's Georgie's record vs Islanders after tonight....5-1...5-2 with a less than 2.00 GAA and a .940 or something save %...something along those lines?

I felt your Isles dominated us for sure in the 1st period and you probably should have been up 3-1 instead of being down 1-0. 2nd and 3rd periods were fairly even tho you guys had more dangerous opportunities. But that's what happens when you have great goaltending as we usually get...they save your ass as Georgie did tonight and so we escape the 1st with the lead...oh well shit happens!

The Lee/Georgie call was close and it could have went either way. Had they called it a no interference at first, it wouldn't have been reversed either. Just the way it goes.

Bottom line you got beat because our goaltender is better than yours and because our top end talent is ALOT better than yours and we scored some goals at the right times.

For your board to be bitching and moaning that it was the refs that beat you is pretty weak. You got beat because of the reasons I stated and so you deal with it and hope to god that we don't play you in the playoffs down the road because it's going to be more of the same.

BTW my friend... you do realize we aren't even that good yet and that we are still where we are at in the standings and sniffing a playoff spot and gaining ground on your team. Just wait till we actually are good.

That should scare the crap out of you and the rest of your fan base...lol

You are correct sir! I was thinking of Sean Burke...what a run he went on.

The crazy thing for Burke was he was also a rookie fresh from the Olympics & he made his entire career off that magical run. Other than maybe one season in Phoenix, he really never played as well as he did during those playoffs. He was a good NHL goalie, but never a star.

Oh believe me they are scared. They know we are going to be serious contenders in a few years. The ones who will admit it at least.

was thinking that an over .500 record this year with us maybe and I do say maybe hanging around the periphery of the playoff bubble teams would be a massive success for such a young team

This is fair. I thought along these lines also. But only because we are so young, there might not be enough consistency. I knew we would have some great games this year with our firepower. The only question was would we do it consistently. And now I think we have the answer. We needed to go through a process, and it seems we finally learned how to play a 5 man defensive structure. With each player having all parts memorized. So they can be interchangeable depending on the particular scenario. This is what I see. Each player now knows what to do without the puck. And they are executing. Guys could know what to do, but if they don't execute, it's all for naught. In the beginning of the year the players played hard, had effort, but had no structure. Now we have structure and effort and it is showing in the win column.

He was better in the second half of his career. He played behind some really bad teams in Phoenix.

Oh I know they are and it's likely their worst nightmare seeing their fan base thought it might take us 3-4 years to be a threat to them and instead we are threat to them NOW. I mean you can't make this shit up.

It's simply phenomenal how rapid this ascent of ours has been. I shake my head sometimes and think how can this be happening so fast? We've seen teams do rebuilds before and most of them don't go as well as this one has. We've seen the Edmonton's, Buffalo's, Arizona's go thru it and they've been doing it for years. The Islanders rebuild has been obviously better than those 3 teams but they seem to have a ceiling to me as I don't see them as anything close to Cup threats and in fact they seem more like a team that is closer to being a one and done playoff team than anything.

What's going on here tho is a bit more reminiscent of what the Penguins and Black Hawks did a decade or so ago with the only difference those two teams drafted two transcendental type player each whereas we dont know yet if we have one of those yet. What we do know is that we have two guys Panarin and Mika who are about as good a pair of fwds in the league that we got in trades and FA and it looks like we have some very promising young players along with great goaltending.

Still alot of time to see how this is all going to play out but if anyone is paying attention around the league to what is going on here in Ranger land, you'd have to think besides the Islanders, there are alot of other teams who are looking at us and thinking that we are right on the cusp of being a major factor for the next 5-7 years as to who will win the Cup or not

The big thing we have going for us is they are the NY Rangers and players want to play here. We get guys like Panarin, Trouba, and Fox who all want to be here. This team would have 10 less points without Panarin. We also have a very smart GM who knows how to build a cup contender and a number 1 prospect pool. Good times.

The list of players I’d take above Zibanejad at this point in time might be 10 long, possibly less.

Funny you say this. Just the other day I looked at my fantasy league's draft and I took Mika as the 75th overall pick and 42nd forward selected in my 12 team $$ league. Now I get that fantasy is a bit different than reality but you can get a very good gauge as to where players are perceived and where their values lie.

I've been doing fantasy football, hockey and baseball for going on 22 years now and feel I have a pretty good idea as to player evaluations are concerned.

If I had to guess right now where Mika would rate heading into next year, I'd probably say that he is not as high as you mention as Top 10 is a bit too high but I would not be adverse to saying Mika would be a top 15-20 fwd and likely top 30 overall pick.

Bottom line is Mika's value has morphed a ton this year as he's gone from good to great.

Panarin for shits and giggles I just looked was the 12th fwd taken in my league and 16th overall. Next year, I'd say the only forwards taken ahead of Bread would be McDavid, MacKinnon and maybe Pastranek. Some could argue Draisatle as well but it were me, I'd likely take only McDavid and MacKinnon over Panarin as he's gone from great to elite this year.

Yup totally agree. The lure of NYC and playing for an Original 6 team that if reports we've all read and heard, treat their players like kings, has it's perks.

But and this is HUGE not all players who come here can handle the NY scene and the pressure and the media spotlight that comes with the territory. It certainly appears that Gorton and his staff have very carefully vetted and done their due diligence superbly in targeting the players they want to bring in both via trade and in FA.

I'm sure they do the same thing when they decide who they want to draft but that's got to be alot more difficult to do as these are mostly teenagers they are dealing with and so there is alot more variables involved.

But so far so good for pretty much everything that has occurred since the letter went out. If you think about it and maybe you can come up with a few that escape me, other than drafting Lias and that still has a slight chance of not being a total waste and maybe the Shattenkirk FA signing and even that I can't totally fault him on seeing Shatty did take a discount to come here as he also wanted to come to NY, there really aren't all to many decisions Gorton's made that I can fault him on or that haven't worked out.

Most of us don't talk about this or mention it but I can't think of another GM in the leauge I'd rather have than Gorton...I really can't. I do like Sakic's moves over the years as he's very solid and I'd put him right there with Gorton and Yzerman has done some very nice things when he was with Tampa...we'll see how he does with Detroit. But other than those two, I can't think of anyone I'd want leading our Rangers than Gorton. He's done a hell of job and it's been him that has orchestrated this rebuild of our and it's been simply masterful.

Yeah hes getting to play with an MVP candidate
At some point you got to give him credit. Was Strome's career best 8 game point streak that ended tonight not enough? I really don't understand this. As someone mentioned here, you don't see Fast scoring 50 pts playing with Panarin. Just maybe, Fast will reach 40 pts this season, if he's lucky. Which is only 7 more points than his best year. Maybe Fast should buy Panarin dinner to say thank you.

Just two last thoughts....
How many guys you know of, can fight off 3 defenders to dish the puck to your teammate? Cause Panarin did just that,... it was his stick that directed the puck to open ice.

And two,.... with 20 games remaining, 14 wins I believe would secure a playoff spot with a 100 points. Won't be easy. But sure damn exciting to watch them try.
