Really nice win in a game I didn’t feel great about. I loved the islanders vets wilting when the rangers pushed back after the dirty Pageau hit. Fox & Laf mixing it up was awesome. And where was “the Identity Line” tonight? Matt Martin must’ve been more focused on thanksgiving dinner at Boomer’s tomorrow. LGR.

I find the hate on Laf weird.

It's over the top. People act like he insulted their mother, kicked their dog and spit in their face.

He's a 20 year old kid playing hockey. He's not where he needs to be. He will be the first to tell you that.

It's almost like the universe knows and is telling us he will be good because the level of haters is astronomical.

He is trying to make a positive impact without being on the scoresheet. Something most offensive players don't learn until later or never at all. That was part of what made him special and a #1. It's how he stepped up as a leader doing the little things in the WJC.

One of these days it will click.

In any other year the isles would be on the verge of no return however they’re going to get a huge break here in February with the Olympics.

If they're still out of it by february they're in big trouble.

It's just HARD to make up all those points when you're already that far out of even a wildcard spot and the teams in front of them aren't pushovers. They will need to go on a huge run and they're gonna be in a deep hole

maybe it's a "lost season" for them for various reasons but it's dire

Realistically the Rangers could be about 20 pts clear of the islanders by Sunday night. That’s insane but a very real possibility

if the islanders lose these next couple division games they have coming up Pitt/NYR/PHIL they’re done

man that whole pageau thing doesn't sit well with me.

Shoulder to the head right in front of the ref and no call, while they'd been calling every phantom trip all night whenever an islander went down near a ranger. I know I know, bitching about the refs, but it's the garbage inconsistency that bothers me. The ref was literally 6 feet away, Lindgren's head gets knocked around by a shoulder, but I guess since he didn't try to sell it as a trip then it's not a penalty.

Glad they gave it to Pageau the rest of the night at least

e: also feels like the refs knew they f***ed up because they let the Rangers get away with several blatant trips after that (possibly all on pageau as well)

The Islanders are professionals when it comes to “clean” hits that hurt guys. Martin on Trouba & Clutterbuck on Lindgren last year, and now this. They know what they’re doing

no but Hunt should be in the bottom 6 and replacing Gauthier let’s us do that at some point

Gauthier brings something Hunt does not. I've liked our 3rd line but with all the penalties today they didn't get a chance to get in the game as much.

Lmao, at the Isles announcers crying and pouting that Laf didn't get an instigator penalty which would carry a 1 game suspension for being in the final few minutes of the game

They also spent the entire time Fox went after him showing the replay talking about how clean it was. f*** them all. I hope the all have asymptomatic covid cases forever and never play in this league again.

I honestly think the refs knew they f***ed up and gave the Rangers a lot of leeway after that.

e: I mean, I don't think Pageau exactly went in with the idea of "hit this guy in the head" but when your shoulder nails the guy in the chin, it shoudl be a penalty these days. That the ref was standing right there makes it absurd it didn't get called

the fact that they were calling phantom trips all night makes it worse

When a shorter guy hits the other one with shoulder to head...it had intent. Just watch him left his front leg up. Basically launching but his back skate stays on the ice, but that's how you get the vertical thrust to a head shot

The most egregious penalty (it wasn't called) committed by a Ranger was a trip by Trouba when they were shorthanded.
