Confirmed with Link: Rangers Hire Peter Laviolette as Head Coach, Assistants Michael Peca & Dan Muse

He looks like somebody stuffed Mark Cuban with lard, so that's gonna be hard to look at. Doesn't make him a bad coach.
He has a stage 1 comb over that we will have to endure. Might be stage 2 when the season starts

I’ll wait to hear who the offensive assistant is.

Carcillo is a straight shooter, so I believe this. I think Lavi will do a deep-dive into the roster and study it individual by individual and then make his decision on how to play, honestly.
I hope Lav does that and Drury is willing to make some big moves. Our team is just too slow individually. We need more individual speed as well as team speed.

Willing to let this play out but I'm underwhelmed at the moment, if nothing else it should help our defensive structure and breakout

3 year deal for Lavi and Knob sticking around makes me think he’ll be the next guy.

Or he starts looking elsewhere. He's paid his dues.

Our power play should get better when he puts Vesey on the top unit.

Teeth? We are talking about teeth? He is a hockey player from the no cage/visor era. Him having any of his own teeth is a bonus! :D

This is HFNYR. EVERYTHING is on the table for criticism evaluation.

You are a good poster but with all due respect I do not think this narrative pushed by a few posters is accurate. Eric Staal played huge minutes. He was younger than both Chytil and Kakko. Mike Richards and Jeff Carter were first line players for him at age 24. Claude Giroux was also a first line guy around 22 or 23 years old. Forsberg played 2nd line at around 20. Ryan Johnason was around 23.

I’m not sure if this was answered yet but in Philly he had no choice. Here and the past 5 years he’s been trash and leans heavily on the vets

Why is Jay Leach the common “young, innovative” coach people wanted? None of you knew who he was 2 months ago and no team hired him anyway lol. Congrats on the Kraken for winning a round in the playoffs though I guess
Right and how has lavy progressed as a coach these past 5 years? He’s more of the same, thinks way to old, can’t change approaches during the game and does nothing for the young guys all the while making teams worse as the years go on. Congrats on lavy doing nothing for the past 4 seasons. Lol

I already showed that young player narrative is pure nonsense. He played young players one 1st and second lines in Carolina, Philly and Nashville. Eric Staal, Giroux, Richards, Carter, Forsberg, and Johansson all played huge minutes at 19-24 years old for Lav.

he had no other choice! Look at the rest of that rosters? Who else was going to play those minutes?

Over under odds on Laviolette completing all 3 years of the contract.

easily going with 2. druzy and lavy will both be gone in 2 years and we will be staying mediocre until we can really change things for the best

Seems like if they’re viewing Knoblauch as the heir apparent that they should’ve just committed to him now and let him start a process of setting this team in his image from top-to-bottom.

Anyways, hope Lavi proves me wrong. Hopefully his defensive structure leads to better offensive structure, but I don’t think his low-event style will work here.

So when he plays young guys he had no choice but when he doesn't play young guys he had a lot of choices? Please stop the cherry picked false narratives. Did he play Martin Fehervary 20 minutes a game the last 2 seasons? How old was he? 21? 22? 23? He didnt play Fabro at age 21 around 19-20 minutes a game?
Lav will play the guys who play best. Not the youngest. Not the oldest. The guys that play to win.

he had no other choice! Look at the rest of that rosters? Who else was going to play those minutes?
Just stop the nonsense.
He had no choice to play the young guys I named? Are you serious? He went to the Cup finals with 3 of those teams in which he played young guys on all 3.

Those of you claiming NYR's problem isn't playing the young guys enough and that's why this is a bad hire- frankly what we do in free agency and deadline trades matters a lot more than the coach.

Kakko lost like 3 minutes a game when we traded for Kane.

You should be lobbying against re-signing Mikkola Kane & Tarasenko more than anything else

You wouldve posted this regardless of who they hired.

Funny to see this posted after we hire a guy who has taken 3 separate teams to cup and is one of the winningest coaches in league history
No I wouldn’t have. I wanted something fresh not one of the 20 different jabronis that get passed around the league to a new team every few years like Laviolette.

Maurice isn’t a great coach either imo, but he has a way of connecting with his players and getting the most of them and/or not holding them back. Sometimes that counts for a lot. Trying to be optimistic, maybe Laviolette can connect with these guys in a way Turk couldnt
