Confirmed with Link: Rangers Hire Peter Laviolette as Head Coach, Assistants Michael Peca & Dan Muse

He's a boring hire but not necessarily bad hire.

I actually think he will fit this group well. They had their overbearing micromanager with they didn't respect in Quinn and then their former player who is too hands off in Gallant. Now they get a coach who commands respect as a cup champion, who has always seemed fiery and the type of coach who demands things of his players and won't always play nice but also isn't a Sutter or Babcock behind the scenes.

It's not sexy but that doesn't mean it's bad. I can definitely see this current core having success under Laviolette in the next couple of seasons.

Laviolette never had a finesse heavy roster before. The roster concerns me that it might not suit his style of coaching. Laviolette always had heavy gritty physical teams, even that Hurricanes team that won had some bite on it. Maybe Drury might bring in Hathaway. Laviolette did coach him and fits a need especially plays RW.

This is EASILY the most canned write up I've ever seen. Why even bother?

I can dig it, he's like a happy medium. I do think he's a better tactician than Gallant (but most probably are). But he's been shown to be passionate and enough of a hard-ass to get guys going.

Gallant can yell and scream but when the spit starts flying around, his eyes bug out and his speech impediment is in full glory, he's probably hard to take seriously after some time.

Dude took three franchises to the Stanley Cup Final, not one of them was anything special. One was a 7 seed, one was a meh Nashville team that had 94 points, and one was a team that's widely regarded as the worst team since the lockout to win the cup. But he's been good enough to get hired a lot so people hate him. He's a victim of his own success.

The problem is, the regular season means very little in hockey, and the defense isn’t close to good enough, no matter who the coach is.

Here’s to Igor pulling off a 940 from April to June.

Some fans really need to let Laviolette coach the team before complaining about him. I feel fans just do this because they are looking for attention or they need some meds. Go back to the institution. Soft mentality just like the players lol
Say it again and keep saying it. If you are a Rangers fan you will root for our coach to succeed not root against him.
