This is some sort of revelation?...This is amazing. I would trust Drury over every single one of the people here, who have no real life experience in this. It is so easy to be negative because you will be right 98% of the time when it comes to the cup. What a forum.
Ugh... Who was the last player that we had who had effective hands in traffic? Hayes?Being effective and playing with intensity is constantly conflated.
Everyone saw the overtime winner and said "gee go to the net nobody wants to do that."
Fact of the matter is, nobody on our team makes the zone entry and quick pass Bennett did without losing the puck.
I don't know that they tell guys in this organization but nothing deteriorates on the Rangers like hands in traffic and moving the puck quickly.
See: Kakko, Kaapo.
Panarin before he caught exposure to the New York Rangers.Ugh... Who was the last player that we had who had effective hands in traffic? Hayes?
Been beating the drum for a while but the “leadership” core has to be broken up before this team goes anywhere. Why the reluctance to hire someone fresh?
Simple: the players were unhappy with DQ...result: fired. The players were unhappy with GG...result: fired.
Not that I don't think that GG should have been fired, because I do.
But, it makes you wonder if the inmates are running the asylum.
Bringing in a "never coached in the NHL before" head coach might be like feeding a newbie to the lions.
Drury might feel that an experienced hand, one with a no nonsense reputation, might be required.
From everything we think we know, this does not seem like the easiest group to coach.
Exactly. Though I don’t like the coaching options out there, I also wouldn’t read a ton into what a coach has done in other situations since generally the players play their way and the GM brings in the players. I’d give most any NHL coach the benefit of the doubt in that respect.Difficult to say because Nashville has always been a team whose strength is on the blueline.
@RangersFan1994 I think it's a strong possibility. I also am leaning that they might not have identified a candidate yet because Drury and any of the candidates, may not agree on the vision of this team. I am not an insider and just a low information fan who Dolan loathes.Imagine if the Rangers announce a hiring that no expects? Anyone think that will happen???
Everyone has expensive stars.
Good teams round out the lineup with contributions for pennies on the dollar. Great teams make every acquisition better.
The Rangers don't get anything out of their cheap options. @Fitzy and others have posted about how low-key horrendous our drafting has been since the Kreider/Stepan/Hagelin class of the early to mid 2010's. They're right.
Young players don't develop in this organization. Established players either get worse here (Panarin, Trouba) or sacrifice large portions of the game to find a niche (Zibanejad). Trocheck quietly had an excellent season but sucked in the playoffs and I would be wholly unsurprised if he wasn't good next year.
We're becoming talent poison. It has to change. Part of it is coaching but it's not all coaching.
Been like that forever.
Kovalev was an 80 point player elsewhere, but a 50 point player here.
Robitaille was still good for 30-40-70 well into his thirties, but had the two worst seasons of his career here before being traded for Kevin Stevens.
Stevens looked like an AHL grinder here, but somehow found one magic half season with Mario Lemieux even after getting busted in NY.
We got post Scott Stevens Lindros, who was "pretty good" for one season, but never elite, and a mess after that given all the concussions.
Rick Nash went from a power forward to a defensively responsible grinder quickly here, and never once scored meaningfully in the playoffs.
Wade Redden's decline started long before he got here, but by the end he was a stay at home defenseman with no shot would could barely skate.
Dan Boyle looked amazing in his first week with the team, and by the end looked like me in the 3rd period of a beer league game, just unable to keep up with the play at all.
Kevin Shattenkirk went from All-Star to Michael Del Zotto in one season.
The list goes on.
The entire org needs to be overhauled/gutted/re-evaluated. Top down. Especially if you're a Sather hire. Who does that exactly? that's the problem. These big orgs get bloated and inefficient at winning. As long as there's profit, change will be minimal. It takes a Steinbrenner mentality. Winning > Profits.Everyone has expensive stars.

The 53-year-old has spent the past nine seasons working as an assistant coach for the Red Wings, Maple Leafs, Islanders and Kings, where he’s often been responsible for running the power play and coaching the forwards. He’s also a former NHL player who immediately began coaching at the junior level after retiring in 2002, winning CHL coach of the year honors in 2010.
One source referred to him as “my favorite assistant coach in the league,” noting that he strikes the right balance between being progressive – both in terms of player relationships and understanding analytics – and demanding. He’s bolstered that reputation by helping the Kings reach the playoffs this season and could be an under-the-radar name to watch.
I disagree that established players get worse here. Panarin has led the Rangers in scoring every year he has been here and was a Hart trophy finalist 3 years ago. This does not excuse his play in the playoffs though. Mika has also had a pretty damn good career after being traded here. Trocheck, as you stated, also had a good year.Everyone has expensive stars.

Some of you guys need to snap out of it. The negativity is over the top. Some of you are acting like the finished 32nd in the league.
Stan Kroenke is one win away from winning his 2nd championship in two years. His Avalanche won the Cup last season. Even his football team in the EPL came close to winning the title this season. Arsenal. They will win one of these seasons. Arsenal was in first place for most of the season and they dropped points opening the door for Manchester City to win again. Arsenal has a good young manager in Arteta.Michael Malone was fired from previous NBA head coaching position. Then had fans and some media saying he can't win in the playoffs for years with a 21-27 playoff record before this year. He is now 1 win away from a NBA ring.
Ugh... Who was the last player that we had who had effective hands in traffic? Hayes?
I wish. Bedard anyone? Some of you guys need to snap out of it. The negativity is over the top. Some of you are acting like the finished 32nd in the league.
I like patient but if it was the Rangers with no championships in 23 years not the Nuggets would you be praising it? Especially when the prior GM left years ago and won in Toronto? A few days ago people on this board said we needed a George Steinbrenner. Then they needed patience? Seems like a lot of convenience shifts.Anyway the point of my prior post is that fans and media were wrong about that coach not being able to win in the playoffs. He even was a "retread".Stan Kroenke is one win away from winning his 2nd championship in two years. His Avalanche won the Cup last season. Stan and his son Josh are patient. They don't change management and coaches every couple of seasons. Their football won a Super Bowl two years ago. Rams.
Dolan fired Gorton and Davidson because the Rangers rebuild wasn’t progressing fast enough.
Arteta had to clear out all of the players he inherited and bring in his players. That takes time.
All of Kroenke's team have stability in the front office and coaching staffs.
Sakic has been there a very long time. Bednar has been there a long time. The Nuggets were run by Tim Connolly before left to run Minnesota. He was president of basketball operations but their GM Calvin Booth has been in the organization for 6-7 years. Malone has been there a very long time. His father Brendan was a long-time NBA assistant coach.
Dolan is an irrational loon. He deserves all of the criticism he gets. In fact, Dolan doesn’t receive enough criticism.
Their slogan should be "The New York Rangers, where All Stars/useful players acquired from elsewhere go to s***" when it matters".Been like that forever.
