I mean, ok, but that’s a really bad team we’re seeing there. Buch is not a top 6 C on a contending team.
Mandatory disclaimer that I hated and stol hate that trade as much as anyone else here.

It shouldn’t have been. The GM acquires the players, not the coach. The bottom six was set in stone no matter what moves we made at the deadline. Gallant was never going to move Kakko back up and break up the kid line. The 4th line with Motte, Vesey and Goodrow should of been good enough and for the most part were ok. It was Panarian who was total garbage and no move could of fixed that.
Our roster was 10xs tougher then the soft devils, still didn't matter.
Made more sense to sign Buch and cut bait with Strome. Buch could have been moved a year or two later for cap reasons if necessary.

Agree. Just be honest with the fans who want information about the team they root for. It's not like the silence and secrecy has brought them success. So what's the point. They really do make themselves appear smug and arrogant and unlikable.I know this place is only a couple hundred diehards and it can never be that reflective of actual fan opinion, but I do think the radio silence from the front office is contributing to the crummy vibes around the team. It just doesn't feel like they have a handle on the situation. Maybe they have something crazy planned for the offseason.
Hopefully when they get a coach, even if it's a random middle aged male who coached the Nashville Predators to a "NHL .500" record, they'll open up a little.
The first part doesn't help the team at all. The second part is assumed so how does it help to make an announcement saying it? I'm glad we aren't rushing. If a guy we really liked was available we would jump on them but that hasn't been the case. I think we were hoping someone like Sully or Rod might have become available. It's not even that hard. Just mention the candidates you interviewed and say you're taking the time to make the right choice.
But where does that leave us? Do we choose between the uninspired choices left to us or do we dig widen our search? The first part doesn't help the team at all. Timing wise, teams tend to prefer to have the new coach on board weeks before the draft. You'd like the coach/system/style to be in place before drafting. Plus a new coach will want to have input in that decision to feel like they're a valued member of decision making. So, that means we are likely getting close to an announcement. It's possible that Drury doesn't care and will wait it out. But I think he'll likely announce something within the week. Beyond that, letting the previous regime's assts go also signals that the incoming coach may have been chosen and he's made his preferences known re assistants. Unless of course Gallant is about to become Calgary's coach and the Rangers released the assistants in good faith. I suppose it really could be either. But where does that leave us? Gallant wasn’t even coaching. Let’s just let the players do it a little longer until the right candidate becomes available. But where does that leave us? Do we choose between the uninspired choices left to us or do we dig widen our search?
Rangers fan in DC or Junks fan in NY?I was the only one who pumped his tires. Got more cised for him than Lav on the Junks.

I can only speculate that they don't love their choices so far. The good thing is they do have a bit more time. I have seen some bad prosport hires from teams with no time. There is a chance they are waiting for Q or a guy whose team is still playing. No way to know. But where does that leave us? Given the way things have transpired over the past year, I fully expect the Rangers to draft a goalie with their first round pick.Timing wise, teams tend to prefer to have the new coach on board weeks before the draft. Outside of interviewing Leach, I am not sure what stone is left to turn over.
It's very possible that there are snags in negotiations, either with the head coach or assts. Who really knows. I could see Lavy coming in and wanting more say in personnel choices than Gallant had. It's also possible that like Lavy's got a wedding to attend or whatever and the deal is made but not the announcement. Who knows.
I am writing as if I'm assuming it's Lavy but that's just going off of Vince's update yesterday.
But I'm willing to bet it's a done deal at this point and they're just waiting on some random thing to make an announcement.
I don’t dox myself. Former high major DOBO though.Rangers fan in DC or Junks fan in NY?
Go watch MoneyballAnd the coach decides who is on the ice with whom and who never plays on the PP. Gallant and Drury were clearly butting heads and envisioning different things.
Which, coupled with an abysmal playoff performance in a multitude of games, is why we're at where we are.
I don't agree it was inevitable. Otherwise we would have gotten a center in exchange. Like if we got Robert Thomas in exchange then your point could make sense. This was a cap move. The fear was that Buch's cap would one day block us from resigning Kakko, Chytil, Laf, and Miller. And maybe a misguided belief that Kakko and Kravtsov were gonna step up to fill that void. As long as you sign Buch to contract sans NTC, we would have been able to delay trading him down the road.Gorton was also going to trade Buch. The wing depth and lack of center depth at the time made it inevitable.
Speaking of Moneyball. Anyone seen Mr. Moneypuck, Silverfish lately? Wonder if he's trying to convince Dolan to fire Drury and hire Chayka, and then immediately have Chayka sign Nakladal.Go watch Moneyball
