Rangers have lost 6 out of their last 7 games. What would you do if you were Dolan (the owner of the team) or Drury (the GM)?

Will one of these fit next to the Regular Season Champions banner? :naughty:

Here’s the problem with the Rangers. And not just this year but years past.

You build a team around a bunch of primadonnas that prioritize lifestyle over hockey, then you pay them to the moon so they can maximize their lifestyle. You’ll get the results you see.

The one year in the last 80 years they won it. They imported tried and true, hardened leadership from the Oilers dynasty in Messier, Anderson, Lowe, MacTavish, Tikkanen to power themselves to a Cup.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. That team isn’t winning anything with a leadership core of Panarin and Trouba. Trouba is gone so at least they realize in part of some of the problem I've always known. Panarin can stay cause talent is always needed, but he cannot be the alpha on the team.

Imo the Rangers should deep dive rebuild and draft a new core. Trade anyone who will get first and second round picks.

The Rangers "rebuild on the fly" unironically worked though and that's what makes fans of rival teams seethe more than anything else, the fact that the Rangers with all all their imperfections, muh "fugazi's", managed to go to the ECF 2 out of the 3 years of contention, 2 wins from the finals, and they broke the hearts of Carolina/Pitt/WSH on the way.

Worth it.

Of course the Rags who have the rare advantage of talented players wanting/forcing their way to play for them will always be competitive. And that’s why they’ve always been competitive. Even this year they are ultimately going to be competive if they find a way to right the ship. When I say the Rags problem I meant in relation to “Winning it All”. To go over the Top. It was never going to happen with Trouba, so that’s problem one solved. Now where do they find the Toews to Panarins Kane. They need a true Captain and probably need to swap some of the core too.

It didn’t work otherwise they’d have a cup by now AND not be in the quagmire they are in currently unless you consider finishing top 4 to be some accomplishment that teams consistently acknowledge as the peak of competition for their sport instead of being the sole winner.

“Blow it up” lol

Not everything has to be a cataclysmic tear down. They have been a very good, if flawed team for a few years now. You try tweaking the formula and shaking things up for at least a season or two before doing anything drastic IMO

They defineyly need a retool. Rangers need a 1C, a top 4 LHD, and to trade Zibanejad.

Panarain - 1C - Lafreniere
Kreider - Trochek - Smith
Cuylle - Chytil - Kakko
Edstrom - Carrick - Vesey

LHD - Fox
Lindgren - Miller
Jones - Schneider

I actually like their roster. It might be a down year, but they definetly have the pieces to turn it around next year.

1 Cup in 80 years isn’t it “working,” especially with guys wanting to be there. Broken hearts banners don’t exist.

From an outsider’s perspective, I’d say the correct move is to fire Drury first. He doesn’t inspire confidence as a GM and he created a climate of distrust between players and management.

The roster also had glaring issues that were not addressed at all during the offseason. I think the blue line in particular needs to be improved.

I’m not a Lavi fan, but he’s not a bad coach fundamentally.

Where are they supposed to get a 1C? You make it sound like they can just stroll into the nearest bodega and pick one up

Don't care, I'm a fan, I watch for entertainment and out of love not to be a keyboard warrior about how many 123 XYZ's my favorite sportsball team has won. It's not coming out of my pay and I'm not some betting freak.

If Drury and the Rangers plan on pulling a New Jorsey Debbies and taking a year off to get a lottery pick and some money to spend, so be it. They'll be back soon enough to dogfight with the rest of the Metropolitan.

They should have gone all in on Eichel.
