Rangers have lost 6 out of their last 7 games. What would you do if you were Dolan (the owner of the team) or Drury (the GM)?

Here’s the problem with the Rangers. And not just this year but years past.

You build a team around a bunch of primadonnas that prioritize lifestyle over hockey, then you pay them to the moon so they can maximize their lifestyle. You’ll get the results you see.

The one year in the last 80 years they won it. They imported tried and true, hardened leadership from the Oilers dynasty in Messier, Anderson, Lowe, MacTavish, Tikkanen to power themselves to a Cup.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. That team isn’t winning anything with a leadership core of Panarin and Trouba. Trouba is gone so at least they realize in part of some of the problem I've always known. Panarin can stay cause talent is always needed, but he cannot be the alpha on the team.

Imo the Rangers should deep dive rebuild and draft a new core. Trade anyone who will get first and second round picks.

The Rangers "rebuild on the fly" unironically worked though and that's what makes fans of rival teams seethe more than anything else, the fact that the Rangers with all all their imperfections, muh "fugazi's", managed to go to the ECF 2 out of the 3 years of contention, 2 wins from the finals, and they broke the hearts of Carolina/Pitt/WSH on the way.

Worth it.

Of course the Rags who have the rare advantage of talented players wanting/forcing their way to play for them will always be competitive. And that’s why they’ve always been competitive. Even this year they are ultimately going to be competive if they find a way to right the ship. When I say the Rags problem I mean relation to Winning it All. To go over the Top. It was never going to happen with Trouba, so that’s problem one solved. Now where do they find the Toews to Panarins Kane. They need a true Captain and probably need to swap some of the core too.

It didn’t work otherwise they’d have a cup by now AND not be in the quagmire they are in currently unless you consider finishing top 4 to be some accomplishment that teams consistently acknowledge as the peak of competition for their sport instead of being the sole winner.
