Millers gaffe in the third led directly to the only goal Montreal scored.

WTF was he doing on the far right of the zone going below the goal line??
I thought/ said the same. The Hab had two steps on Miller. He needs to disengage earlier and take the trailer. That said, the play by the Habs was really fast. That puck got into the slot super fast. A forward could have picked up the trailer too. As usual, a goal is a combination of multiple breakdowns and multiple nice plays.

I think people here focus on every little mistake in a game so much they don't see the big picture. There's mistakes by everyone on the team, some end up in the net, some don't, they are all still mistakes. Who makes them seems to mean more to some than the actual mistake. I mean Lundkvist has had a predictablly terrible start, but here we are on Miller. Nemeth hasn't been very good either. Our top 4 has been good, the bottom pair hasn't.
Sometimes you gotta look for some positives from time to time and and stop focusing on the negative because for 99 percent of that game Miller was a positive.
This is true too.

Last night was a total wash. Lets be frank Chytl does not have the on ice vision or instincts to play with Panarin. There was no chemistry there last night. I know its only one game but this is Chytl's makeup. Strome fits better only because he sees the ice better but he really isn't the answer either. If we want to maximize Panarin's output they need to get a better center.
I think Kakko can eventually fill that distributor role. Just a matter of time. He has good vision and obviously can make handle the puck.

I wish I could find a GIF but KAM had a sick play last night when he jumped around the defender then pick pocketed him. Him and Trouba get way too much hate. Trouba was arguably one of the best Rangers the first two games. Last night his mistake was getting tangled up in front of the net and taking himself out of the play, but McKegg just stood around leaving Igor to hang out to dry.
He definitely shows flashes. The thing is, Trouba is our “shutdown” guy so his pairing gets thrust into the most difficult situations. It’s not an ideal situation for developing Miller. The Rangers obviously think he will emerge stonger and better. Which is probably true. We just need patience. Still nothing wrong with saying it when there’s a bad play. I think most of us appreciate he’s a work in progress. Let’s also appreciate Trouba’s mentorship.

Nope, I just checked the replay, they had switched.

Trouba comes over and bumps into KAM. McKegg let’s go of Drouin to pick up the guy that breaks away from Trouba, and Drouin scores.

KAM is taking a lot of unwarranted heat.

Your second picture shows both guys on the right side below the goal line.

Miller was out of position in the 1st pic. Defenders should NOT be chasing guys to the off side.

It was a poor decision by Miller. I actually found that he chased a few times last night, this one happend to burn them.

The good thing in all of this is that it can be corrected.

But he has to stop chasing and stay in his lane.

The whole team has played like 4.5 bad periods and 4.5 good ones. I thought about jumping in the gdt every time fox made a bad error the last three games but why would I do that? He can make mistakes and still be good. I think overall the defensemen not named tinordi have all been way more good than bad so far. But people just look for what they've decided. Kam and trouba predictably get put over the fire.

This is true.

Fox this season, and several times last night, has pretty bad moments. But he has a lot more good moments, and he can usually correct/make up for the bad moments, like the lead-up to the Laf goal.

This is true too.

If our forwards came back hard and removed the gap between them and the D, hardly any of these mistakes would matter much. Defending is about having as many guys in the box as possible. I don't care how good Fox's stick is or what kind of reach Miller has, defending in hockey is like hitting in baseball, its really hard and you need lots of little things like a good count or an up with a small strike zone to improve your chances at success. Our D will b successful when our forwards commit to the backcheck and don't float in our own zone. We have to commit to our offense starting from a good defensive play. Laf's goal was a good example. Fox makes a hell of a play behind his own net and within 5 seconds it's a goal

He didn't chase the guy to that side, just watch the replay, damn.

There was a scrum for the puck along the right side boards, when it came out, Trouba was in a position to chase the puck to the left corner to pick it up and break it out. That's when Trouba and Miller "switched". Basically they just never went back over to their respective sides. When the Habs brought the puck back in over the blueline, Miller was on the right and Trouba on the left. The Habs got the puck back up the ice fast enough that the D didn't get back over to their normal sides, so the guy breaking in on the right side of the ice was Miller's guy now, he was in position for that. He kept the guy wide, went for a poke check that didn't connect but the player was still forced behind the net. Here's where it got tricky, because Trouba tied up the Habs player going to the front of the net but they both went past the net a bit and a shove from Trouba sent the Habs player into Millers path, which means Miller got picked. Meanwhile McKegg is floating in the slot watching the play, then tries to attack the puck carrier as he comes around the net, which leaves the slot and Drouin wide open for the easy player. Trouba and Miller were still tied up and couldn't get back to the slot.

Trouba and McKegg are more to blame. Miller could have tried to release from his player and cut around the front of the net instead, but Trouba was tied up and there was no way for them to switch that coverage at that point. McKegg could have held his position in the slot but instead went after the puck carrier, and no one else got there in time to cover the slot.

If I'm going to fault Miller for something it's that he probably needed to play his gap better and force that forward back or into the boards rather than missing the pokecheck and then trying to force him around behind the net. That's when things broke down when Trouba shoved his guy into Miller while trying to tie him up.

But the big point here is that Miller didn't chase his guy to the wrong side of the ice and if you actually watch the replay you'll see that

Reactions: THE BIG WHISTLE
The 50 point defenseman was on his last strike and still blew it. If you're concerned about Georgiev's play thats one thing but there's no proof he's an issue off the ice, its generally all speculation by people who want ADA to still be here. Haven't seen one comment from anyone in the org that Georgiev is doing anything you're talking about.
I think TDA made his own bed and had a ton of issues obviously but Georgiev (from what we know) is the one who initiated it into a physical conflict. I'm not pearl clutching over it, I played juniors and college so I've personally seen teammates go at it and bury the hatchet, but it's definitely not a good sign of Georgiev's relationship with teammates. It could obviously be an isolated incident but there were reports over the summer that he wasn't particularly well liked in the room. I'm mostly annoyed at his play the last year or so, I guess that is coloring my view of him.

That all depends on the defensive system, which imo it looks more man-on-man orientated

The guy has made more great passes already than most of the team will make this entire season.

Maybe. But to make them he floats around to find the seams. Panarin is an expert at dissecting defenses, but that doesn't excuse his lately develop habit of having everyone else carry his lunchbox for him.
