west coast games, i just don't the stamina for the 10pm starts. what lines did they go with last night? glad barron got in there. from the boxscore he was a face-off machine in limited time. Tinordi scores? you got to get that win when that occurs.
Rooney was moved up to center Chytil and Gettinger. Laf played with Zib and Kreider. Kakko with Strome and Goodrow.

Joe also said that Gallant had a talk with Chytil about being more north-south and shooting more.

Laf looked more comfortable with Zib and Kreider than Kakko. When Panarin returns, I hope Kakko stays on the line with Strome. Rooney with Chytil and Gauthier when he returns, maybe? Or Goodrow on that line and Gauthier with Reaves and Barron? Where does Hunt go?

People want to see Barron look good and hang onto a spot...and Barron did have a pretty good game particularly at the dot. Bur for me, Gettinger did the most to show he belongs.

He might not be anything more than a good fourth line wing, but the guy seems to know what that role requires. Forecheck, hit things, and generally be big...
The key for Getts is to use his body more often. He doesn’t have to throw devastating hits, but he’s got to be more physical to be an everyday player.
By all accounts from our avid Hartford watchers, he’s finally seemed to have found that out this season.
At 23, I’m not writing him off as a potential 4th liner yet. He did a nice job screening the goalie and getting out of the way of lindgrens shot.
I’m hoping he keeps following down this path...
Reaves will be 35 next year. It would be nice to have Getts spell him from time to time and keep him fresh for the heavier teams.
Barron has better tools and is a better all around player then Getts. The hope is he’ll grab a spot higher then 4th line

Barron/Gettinger are more effective in their roles than Chytil/Gauthier

Barron in + Chytil to the wing seems like the move going forward. Add Pavelski & a more stable partner for Lundkvist, and this team has as good a shot as anyone to come out of the metro playoffs

Lundkvist is part of the problem, he either isn't that good or not ready yet.

Can I super like this post? It's amazing to me, how those thoughts were exactly what mine were....when evaluating the last two games. I mean, one can say that we really weren't on our game versus Vegas, but the Knights certainly were. This game, were we really that good? Probably not. It was more like Anaheim was bad, but definitely something in between. Hey, I'd rather lose to a good team in Vegas, then beating Vegas and losing to Anaheim.
I really liked your post as well.

I guess we should be happy we bounced back off a loss and got a valuable two points on the road. And even though the Ducks shot themselves in the foot this game with many turnovers, we found a way to take advantage. Cause even after dominating the first period, we had nothing to show for it.

In Vegas, even though we competed hard in the first period, you could tell it would be a rough game. There just wasn't any time or space. And Vegas was quick to transition off their forced turnovers. We just couldn't match their applied pressure. Coulda been an off night for us, but you can't take anything away from the Knight's effort.

But last night the difference was night and day. No pressure, no forced turnovers, plenty of time and space. Too bad there are not many games like this. Ducks had a little push in the second period for a few shifts, but we handled it well and turned the tables with another dominating period in the third. It was a good win even though there wasn't much of an effort from the Ducks. We took care of business the way we are supposed to. With I might add,... only one line intact, and Jarrod Tinordi dressing.

Actually Rooney centered Chytil and McKegg and Gettinger, Brodzinski and Barron were the 4th line. McKegg is pretty useless and sometimes downright bad. Barron, in one game, showed more skill and hockey sense than every guy who has played on the 4th line this season (aside from Goodrow). They need to fit him in somewhere and Gettinger looked good also.

phenomenal finish. Shut it down in the 3rd. Great defensive effort.

Barron needs to be here long term. The best our bottom6 has looked in a while. Much better defensively moving Chytil to wing

We need a 3rd pair that can reliably play hockey.
We gave up 13 or 14 shots. All the D pairs had good games. Lundqvist is talented and learning. Tinordi is scary when he's out there.

Id like to add, knowing Hf, that while yes, barron played well, do not expect it to be the norm. He is still a rookie and will have some off nights. That being said, I like his toolset a lot and think he has a career of being a solid 3rd liner. Good on fo and big in general with some pretty good hockey sense.

In addition, while laf didnt get on the scoresheet, thought he played great. Strome played well, but needed to raise the puck more on some, like that turnaround he let loose. Drew a pp though and overall, i really like this team. We going up baby!
Strome single handedly torpedoed the PP last night. Otherwise, he was good.

Ryan Strome.... oof tonight

3 stars of the game go to the Hartford squad. They logged some important minutes and had a solid impact in the game, moreso as the game went on.

Agree with the sentiment that Klingberg doesn't fit with one very large caveat...

IF we stay healthy. But in the age of covid protocol + injuries, it wouldn't be a bad addition by any means. What this says to me is he's the perfect rental candidate. Won't hurt our long term cap, can step up in the top 4 if someone is out and shores up the third pair when we're healthy. He'll only help our 5v5 play as well; we could use another D man that can break the puck out of our end

The addition I'd rather have though is Rielly Smith.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Strome-Smith
Laf-Chytil-Goat/Hunt
Goodrow-Rooney-Reaves/Hunt

Is a disgustingly talented and balanced forward group
Ditto

Chytil and Hunt out, Barron and Gettinger in with Reaves on 4th line
Then figure out the other lines

Skej
Stepan
Howden
Buchenvich
D’Angelo
McDonagh
Shattenkirk

Amazing how many players have flourished escaping Manhattan.

They hit two posts from prime scoring areas too. The Rangers really did take that game over in the second half though.
Yep. The game looks a lot different if those posts are goals. I said that about the Vegas game too. Jones gives us the lead early and everything changes. Microcosm of the NHL though. Sooooo much parity.

Amazing that Barron can’t get a regular spot over Mckegg Hunt or Gauthier. I mean what else does this need to do?
I think it’s just a matter of time. Same with Jones. Gettinger even looks decent btw. Not as slow as I would have expected.

Yep. Almost every game really does come down to a matter of inches, especially in the playoffs.

This. It’s not expecting Barron to be a PPG center.
It’s that’s his size, tools, shot, and style of play are a way better fit for the bottom 6 in this system.
No one is expecting him to play mistake free hockey.
But say you flank him with Goodrow permanently.
Goodrow-Barron-Chytil?? Is 3 big bodies that can wear down the opposition and go to the net.
Dare I say flanked by 2 vets, it can actually be a solid responsible chippy Defensive line that will score the occasional goal
For example, Goodrow-Barron-Lehkonen. Perhaps??
Size, Experience, and Lehkonen is a pesky Def forward whose solid on the forecheck.
It’s all about creating mismatches.
With our top 6 being mostly skill heavy, it would be nice to be able to run a bottom 6 of heavies that can outwork the other teams bottom lines.

Down the line maybe Cuylle or Berard fill the void, but that’s is a ways off yet. Hopefully Berard/Othmann are more then 3rd line guys in the future. Too early to pencil them into anything atm.
I figure we have this year plus 3 more solid years of Goodrow before he’s a 4th/buyout and his skills decrease.
