This. They have played above their head so far this year, but are still very young and inconsistent.
They have a few quality vets sprinkled in as well. Gibson also masks a lot of deficiencies

Ducks will be good in a couple of years when guys like Drysdale, Comtois, Terry, Lundestrom, and Zegras make strides. Kinda getting a preview of their potential now. What impresses me with Anaheim they are able to stay in most of their games and have maintained a playoff spot without star power. Look at teams like Edmonton. It’s pretty crazy.

And to all those that have been clamoring for a Barron cup of coffee. Kudos to you. The kid really does deserve it and I hope the staff recognizes that. I’m fine with McKegg as an emergency/13th forward type but Barron should be playing regular minutes with the big club.

You have a bowl of Werther's Original on your night stand or something gramps?
Someday you will be there. These games are tough on me, as I begin my "priming" with alcohol for a 7pm event. By the time this game got rolling along, Im already feeling it pretty good. Somehow I made it through and caught a 2nd wind. The 2 pts were well worth it.

Lmfao.... I see the Rangers are up 15-0 in 3rd period shots. I check in to see what HFNYR is saying about that. We are somehow bitching.

f***ing ridiculous.
What a surprise! Simply amazing, isn't it?
I dont in general post in live gdt's, and this is basically the reason why. I don't want to get myself caught up in the negativity oh, I just prefer to watch the game & come to my own conclusions. I post after the fact.

Why make that pass if you can shoot like Zib
I have a theory. Prior to Panarin, he was literally the ONLY shooter. Seeing Panarin with all his pretty playmaking, he wanted to improve on that part of his game, coincided with the Kreider/Zibs connection. Lets face it, Kreider needs Zibs, and Zibs needz Kreider. But agree, he needs to scrub the too often pass for more shooting. Even saved, becomes a pass sometimes.

I don't know, this was a weird game. All I could think about throughout the game, was what a good team Vegas has. What a difference in opponents. The Ducks were like the gang that couldn't shoot straight. They gotta be better than what we just saw. There was no pressure at all from them. We were two steps ahead of them the whole night. We had so much time and space it was ridiculous. We won this game by default. I'm not saying the Rangers didn't play well, but honestly, the Ducks did not show up tonight.

Vegas on the other hand impressed the hell out of me. They pressured us all over the ice. They did not give us any room to breathe. The Knights I believe will be a strong playoff contender. The Ducks on the other hand, should start to think of booking their fishing trip early.

Just weird. I never really think of the opposition during games, but with the drastic difference between the two opponents we just faced, it's all I was thinking about.
Can I super like this post? It's amazing to me, how those thoughts were exactly what mine were....when evaluating the last two games. I mean, one can say that we really weren't on our game versus Vegas, but the Knights certainly were. This game, were we really that good? Probably not. It was more like Anaheim was bad, but definitely something in between. Hey, I'd rather lose to a good team in Vegas, then beating Vegas and losing to Anaheim.

The win tonight didn't count. Neither did the 2 wins against Tampa and the one against Edmonton. The only game that counted out of the last five was the Vegas loss. Cmon guys.
And the Panther loss. That loss is the difference betwixt the Rangers in league 1st, and the Panthers where we presently stand at 4th, but that doesnt really matter anyway now, does it?
It would be just a pounding of the chest kind of thing.

Totally. Anaheim looks awful. Maybe they didn’t take the Rangers seriously or something. But that was a putrid effort.

Yeah they look a lot like this team 2 years ago. I think Drysdale is going to be damn good and of course they have Zegras. Too bad Gorton didn't increase that offer to Edmonton.

Yea, certainly a solid foundation. If they make a few smart moves/trades Fowler/Lindholm etc they will be in good shape

This was probably their best game of the season so far going off the eye-test with sustained pressure throughout

This was a game they won, and that they deserved to win. No giveaways, no relying on the PP or stellar goaltending.

We were simply the better team for once.

Despite a lot of wins, this team often relies too much on the PP, elite goaltending or giveaways by the opponent. Tonight was the first time in a while they dominated the game from start to finish.

Outshooting our opponents while leading in the 3rd? Unheard of!

Oh, and the Rangers only allowed fewer shots in a game 8 times since the NHL started tracking SOG in 1967. Let that sink in.
Forcing turnovers with pressure is an art, and works even in the playoffs. Whether it’s speed on the d or reading a play and stepping up in the lane, they work. The majority of odd man rushes are off turnovers as well.

I completely forgot about the Vegas game, and it's a good thing I did.

I forgot about this game. App said 0-0, turned on the game, and Anaheim was up by 1...of course! But then Zib scored to tie it...and then I fell asleep...and we won.

...Yay!

Am I happy we won? Hell yes. Do I see it as some grand sign from the gods that we're on our way to a cup? Nope. Ohbaby touched on it. As much as I hated watching us lose the other day, watching Vegas play was unreal. God damn is that a hell of a hockey team. That's the kind of hockey that gets you close to a cup. We aren't there yet.

Regardless, definitely looked better last night. Still lots to work on, regardless of who was in the line up.

Barron looked great. I thought he earned enough to be up with the big club by now. My guess is he's back in on Monday.

Miller makes one bad play and spends the rest of the game playing light's out. That's why I like Turk. A guy like Torts would have benched him for the game.

Gettinger was interesting as a fourth-liner.

I hate that the pandemic is forcing everyone's hands, but in a way it might be a blessing because we're being forced to give some other players time up with the club. LA is a decent club. It'll be a good test.

Fowler and Lindholm have actually been a big part of their success this season. They need another Top 6 scorer and a better bottom pairing (sounds familiar).

Vegas with a motivated Healthy Jack Eichel is tight up there with cup favorites for me.
They are deep. A close team, pay attention to detail, and have game breaking talent.
It’s going to come down to goaltending in the playoffs with them.

that’s the thing about the playoffs. We’ve all seen a hot goalie can propel you farther then you think.
Us having shesty is a blessings right after hank. We’re very spoiled in that regard.
Look at a team like EDM that has spent years trying to fill that hole.... and they’re still looking.
I think if Barron works out, were 1-2 small adds from winning more then 1 playoff rd.
The games are so tight as it is, the goaltending is so important as well as depth and team structure.
If Zibby/Panarin/Fox/strome/Kreids Play to their full potential that’s a solid talent base as well
Strome/Panarin
Barron/Goodrow ( if it works)
Go a long way in stabilizing our middle 6.
I like our 1st/4th lines as is, as well as our top 4 D. Lundkvist could use a better partner, but Nemeth/Tinordi/Hajek is what we got currently.
If 1 of Chytil/LaF mix well with either of those 2 duos we’ll be a lot better off

I agree that Barron looked pretty good.

In terms of "what took so long??" I can't help but wonder if the org felt they rushed Lias/Howden/Chytil and are deliberately trying to slow play it with Howden.

Chytil is correctly slotted at wing now. We're on our way.

west coast games, i just don't the stamina for the 10pm starts. what lines did they go with last night? glad barron got in there. from the boxscore he was a face-off machine in limited time. Tinordi scores? you got to get that win when that occurs.

Barron in + Chytil to the wing seems like the move going forward. Add Pavelski & a more stable partner for Lundkvist, and this team has as good a shot as anyone to come out of the metro playoffs

I actually like Gettinger a fair bit as a 4th line banger. Dude has worked himself into looking like he could have a future somewhere in the NHL.

People want to see Barron look good and hang onto a spot...and Barron did have a pretty good game particularly at the dot. Bur for me, Gettinger did the most to show he belongs.

He might not be anything more than a good fourth line wing, but the guy seems to know what that role requires. Forecheck, hit things, and generally be big...
