We're not a rebuilding team. Right now he has more value on the team despite his frustrating decline in play.
I feel like his contract is so restrictive that it's worth it to lose whatever value that transaction would lose us to have the cap space available to make moves to improve the team, whether center or elsewhere, and then we can backfill that by trading Othmann or Emery or whoever to get the player we need.

I really don't see the situation where we win the Cup with Zibanejad as our 1C, unless it's completely in spite of him or he has a big wake up call soon.

I don't agree, this is probably their best chance to win a cup in the last 30 years. This sounds like a post from a notorious Rangers poster that loves creative trades (won't name him), it's beneath you.

flyers aren't doing this, mika isn't accepting this.

the only reason the flyers would have any interest at all in mika is because it feels like he puts up half his season point totals against them every year. but...they're still not looking to add a guy who's gonna be out of his prime as they get to their target window of contention. definitely not for younger pieces they anticipate being part of that. there's also the issue of him not exactly fitting the mindset torts wants in his lineup.

Rangers must desperately need a charitable tax deduction to consider this trade.

Owen Tippett can “shoot?” He shoots about as much as Zibanejad but would need to score on >40% more of them to match “change of scenery” Zibanejad. “Change of scenery” Zibanejad has almost as many assists over the last season + 5 games as “skate and shoot” Tippett has points.

What current/known 1C has ever been traded as a “change of scenery” short of reported attitude issues? And even if you can find a 2C with attitude issues who was traded, the return was a hell of a lot higher than a W with half of the production of the C and a cap dump.
Yeah, no GM in the league is trading Tippett for Zibby right now lol. Zibby is negative value and Tippett is on the upswing, keep reading the boxscores though

If you say so. Zibanejad has a per season average of 33 goals and 76 points as a Ranger. That’s 30% more productive on average than Tippet’s career high. Maybe if there was a bigger difference than $2.4M in cap hit you could possibly argue they were closer, but with Zibanejad being a center, a better goal scorer, and a better point scorer, the only possible argument would be age and cap hit.

Add that the Rangers don’t need another winger - Tippett isn’t replacing Panarin, Kreider, or Laf in the top-6. Maybe he bumps Smith, but at the cost of a top-6 center, that’s nowhere near a certain upgrade, and definitely not a big enough one to lose Zib over.
