Confirmed with Link: Rangers extend McDonagh (6 years, $28.2M, $4.7M AAV)

Great deal, great terms. I expect Stepan and Hagelin to be done relatively quickly now, then it's Zuke.

McDonagh reminds me so much of Chelios early in his career. He doesn't have the snarl Chelios had, but the skill set and style of play is almost identical. Torts did a lot for the kid's development as a defensemen, but he ehld him back offensively.

They need to groom him as the PP QB, or at a minimum run one of the points. He's got a very underrated shot, and it's accurate, even when he steps into it.

Kinds only 24. Sky's the limit.

Great signing.

Ryan looks happy.

He does indeed. I think he and Stepan both really like it here. As I said earlier in the thread, I would be surprised if he signed a matching contract (with the one UFA year in McDonagh's being replaced by the non-arbitration eligible RFA year in Stepan's). So the cap hit could be quite different, but every other year has similar salaries.

Curious as to how close I was on McDonagh's salary structure.

This year is the year mactruck shows that offensive potential and WILL win norris. Count my word, also everyone here should be kissing sathers shoes right now cause this contract is a STEAAAALLL

Exciting summer for CDH/WIS alum Ryan McDonagh. Just inked 6yr deal with #NYR and wedding bells to follow in 2wks.

Is it common around the NHL for players to get married so young? I feel like it's such a normal thing on this Rangers team. Not a lot of bro's on this squad besides DZ and Boyle.

I agree with this. My biggest, and really ONLY, issue with Girardi is he has terrible, terrible accuracy with his shot. He can hardly get it through and when he does it usually is not on net. It's like he doesn't look up when he shoots off the one timer or even when he has the puck on his tape. I never understood why he was constantly, put out on the PP over McDonagh and Moore last year. Obviously, Moore for the second half and playoffs. Hopefully AV uses both of those guys more.

The sky really is the limit for him. He has Norris capabilities.

And I know a few of us were discussing this before, but I ended up going with McDonagh in white from Cosby's.

Good. Less partying, more focus. :sarcasm:

Would u guys sign Steps to the same deal? Looking at what #2 centers are getting in UFA and all.

I'd want 7 years from Stepan for that cap hit. Stepan still has one non-arbitration RFA year that should come very cheaply. 6 years would mean that year and 2 UFA years. Bit of an overpayment for 4.7 mil/6 years frankly for Stepan. He shouldn't be making more than McDonagh.

1 down, 4 to go. I think Stepans negotiation might be harder, because there could be a bigger difference between how the player sees himself an how management sees him.

Good cap hit, considering we're getting 3 years of UFA status with it.

They need to bring back the home whites.

A group III status means UFA. It's CBA lingo.

McD was scheduled to become a UFA at age 27. He's 24 now. So the Rangers bought 3 years beyond that. UFA years cost more than RFA years, which is why people make the distinction.

I was just going to say, 3 UFA years at 4.7M for McD is gold.

Makes sense forgot he wasn't arbitration eligible yet.

Absolutely ecstatic about this deal. If AV gives him a fair shot his offensive skills will flourish. We've all seen his flashes of brilliance with the puck in the offensive zone.

To think this all started with dumping Gomez to the Habs.

Stepan is going to be getting at least $3.5 mil per. How much that leaves for Hagelin, Zuccarello and Falk--the Rangers may need to do some adjusting. Richards????---we know the team is going to have to buy him out by next year anyway--enough said--but it doesn't help us now. Figure out a way of dumping some combination of Pyatt, Asham, Powe--maybe all of them.
