Sending powe and Asham down saves almost 15M
Let's sign a couple Rick Nash's then
This is when we point and laugh at Pittsburgh for giving Letang 7mil +
Not really. Letang was about to become a UFA. They're paying for 8 UFA years, we're paying for 3.
And Letang puts up a lot of points. 38 in 35 games this year. 42 in 51 last year. 50 in 82 the year before. There will always be a premium on offensive dmen.
Of course. but I did enjoy Watching Letang completely crap the bed defensively in the playoffs. That was good stuff.
That is pretty much what I am saying, he is AWFUL defensively, sure he puts up points but I would have never gave a defenseman that much money if he isnt good defensively.
Sure he's terrible defensively, but he's key to Pittsburgh's transition game. A PPG defenseman can do wonders for your team. Though I do wonder what his numbers would look like if he didn't have Crosby or Malkin to pass to.
Plenty of defenseman would end up with 30 -40 + point seasons on the PP or 5 v 5 with Cindy and Malkin around. Way overrated IMO

Letang's and McD's contact situations aren't comparable. If you want comparables for McD, look at Hamonic, Bogosian, and Pietrangelo this year.
This year is the year mactruck shows that offensive potential and WILL win norris. Count my word, also everyone here should be kissing sathers shoes right now cause this contract is a STEAAAALLL
Pietrangelo is just as much of a non-comparable as Letang. Pietrangelo comparables are Doughty.

I don't think they're that far away from each other. Pietro has the more refined offensive game, but I don't think they're worlds apart.
The contract is very good and I love McDonagh but he isn't going to win the Norris trophy anytime soon.
Petro is a proven PPQB. 121 points in 224 games. McDonagh has 60 in 169. Pietrangelo has a 50+ point season.
