Confirmed with Link: Rangers extend McDonagh (6 years, $28.2M, $4.7M AAV)

extension? I dont want him to become a UFA. We all know some team will offer him some insane $8M AAV

An extension has nothing to do with this year's salary cap. If we sign him to an extension this year, it is just that. An extension.

Falk, Kreider and Miller doesnt count if playing in AHL. (160 games under age 25 if signed before age 21, 80 games if signed at age 21-22 etc.).

I'm not counting Miller in those numbers. I expect both Falk and Kreider to be on the team. If they aren't, someone else will be in their place, so there's no cap savings to be had there.

The numbers you quoted are related to waiver eligibility. Has nothing to do with whether or not their cap hit counts. Kreider and Miller are on 2-way contracts. They won't count against the cap if they are in the AHL. Falk will probably get a 1 way deal, but it probably won't be more than 925k, so he could be buried in the AHL without any cap hit as well. But again, if they are in the AHL, then other players need to take their place in the NHL, so we aren't saving any cap space.

btw Moore is RFA or not?
I think capgeek is wrong http://capgeek.com/player/1541
Moore already played in AHL/NHL in 2010-2011
and
If a player aged 18 or 19 signs an entry-level contract with a club (with his age calculated on Sept. 15 of the year he signed the contract) but does not play in at least 10 NHL games, the contract will "slide" or be extended one year. The extension does not apply if the player turns 20 between Sept. 16 and Dec. 31 in the year he signed the contract.

Moore turns 20 at Nov 19 2010

Moore signed his ELC as an 18 year old. He was 18 on Sept. 15th, 2010. The date range you quoted only refers to players who turn 20 in the same year they sign their contract.

Incredible deal. McDonagh is worth at least $6 and that's what I figured going into the summer the deal would be around. Not buying out Richards is showings its consequences now though, since there's really not enough space to give Stepan and Hagelin the contracts they deserve.

Under AV would love to see McD open his offensive ability up, pp point, carry the puck, shoot more...then you're talking Norris Trophy candidate

My guess is that Stepan's contract will look like Matt Duchesne. 2 years at $3.5MM with a bigger back end year (ala Subban) to set him up for a much larger qualifying offer in 2015. Can't justify giving him huge bucks for 5-6 years without a longer track record. 3 years just doesn't make sense to me from either the team or player's position.

Found this at another messageboard;

With the Rangers signing Ryan McDonagh to a contract that will have a cap hit of $4.7 million, Cap Geek says that the Rangers currently have $6.5 million in cap space.

The Rangers still need to sign Derek Stepan, Carl Hagelin, Mats Zuccarello and Justin Falk.

The Rangers, during the summer are allowed, to go 10% over the upper limit of $64.3 million. The Rangers need to be below the 64.3 million upper limit by the last day of their training camp.

Cap Geek’s $6.5 million in cap space does not include JT Miller ($1.2 million) but does include Darroll Powe ($1.06 million) and Aaron Asham ($1 million) both of him whom were placed on waivers last week.

Using the Cap Geek cap calculator, adding Miller to the roster but subtracting Powe and Asham gives the Rangers $7.6 million in cap space.

The Subban deal had two reasons behind that. What you mentioned and the fact that they only get a fraction of their money this year. It's more lucrative for the player to get small money this year, when they were only getting ~60% of it anyway and 100% of it next year.

Which is fine, let him go if that's the case. Recent history has proven you don't need to be Henrik Lundqvist to win a cup.

You might not need a Henrik Lundqvist but you do need a a goalie, and seeing how we have no suitable replacements in the system, they are going to pay him what he wants.

You don't just let go a player of his caliber. And they won't.

Giroux got 3 x 3.75

Stepan would probably be 3 x 3.5

It could be doable depending on what Hags and Zuke get (assuming we still want to re-sign Zuke).

flyers got 3 years of giroux at 3.75 but now the are paying him 8.275 million a year. i would rather the rangers overpay stepan 3-5 million now and lock him up long term than sign him to a bridge deal and be stuck potentially in 2 or 3 years.

I'd buy McD-shirt but everytime I get one or a jersey that player has a down year so I'm staying away haha.

This isnt Roberto Luongo we are taking about here...He's the one guy you need and wont complain about his salary.
