Confirmed with Link: Rangers Expected to Sign Patrick Nemeth: Brooks

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
one of the whole points of analytics is to strip away biases from stuff like the eye test (so you're not stuck on remembering a couple of bad plays and ignoring the whole body of work) and we can see that Nemeth has consistently had a positive impact on the defensive side of things throughout the years. Despite some mistakes I'm sure he'll make, his net overall impact is a gain. If he was truly bad then his analytics would show that he's a negative on the ice defensively. That's what Johnson's showed. He was a negative to the eye test and analytics and was just plain bad.
Nemeth seems like a guy who might make mistakes that will stand out now and then but game to game to game he will be fine as a 3rd pairing defender
That's exactly what Avs fans chiming in to comment about his playoff mishaps are doing. Don't let a few mistakes (albeit at the worst possible time when they happen in the playoffs) take away from the big picture. Rangers are just asking him to be a stable veteran who is better than what they've had on the left side with players like Smith, Hajek, Staal and Johnson.

EXACTLY the right sort of player to sign as an interim 3LD. Big, defensive oriented, plays a hard game.

Sure he had some wooftastic plays in a series in which his entire friggin' team fell apart. They fell apart, after all.

Some of you somehow expect to sign Victor Hedman on a 2 year, $2.5MM deal to serve as the transition piece to Jones/Robertson, and I just don't get it.

1000%, Lol.

Pretty much the zeitgeist of these boards.

Honestly he was pretty awesome for the Avs a few years ago when they were just barely sneaking into the playoffs. But when he came back last year he was dreadful and was absolutely wrecked by Vegas. I hope he has a good bounce back for you guys. He's a likable guy, but be wary of him against a heavy forecheck.

Good thing no one knows the book is out on us in that regard

I feel like Hjamarlsson was option A for what Drury is trying to add this off-season but he retired so Nemeth is option B. I'm sure him being Swedish to help Nils puts him a notch above Cole and the other 3rd pair/7th D options on the Market.

Consumer of pizza.

I know I just said I'm now skeptical of every move Drury makes but I have a feeling the Rangers would sign Wayne Gretzky in his prime and you would say he's a poor man's Tanner Glass. You either love or hate a player/GM and then take everything to the Nth degree with them.
LOL I’m an enthusiastic guy but I’m hardly exaggerating about these moves. The whole hockey world is laughing at us. Check the main boards, social media, hockey YouTubers, etc. I’m not the only one who thinks Drury is doing an abysmal job

so you want to point to Idiots, even bigger idiots and the biggest idiots as your frame of reference?

Nice.

This is a very good signing as far as fit and need goes. Nemeth is an extremely solid defensive defenseman with bite, size and good skating. The fact that he's Swedish and can help Nils on and off the ice makes it even better. Good choice to be that veteran LD stop gap we've all been talking about acquiring.

Didn’t you get the memo?

Swapping Buch, Howden and Blackwell up front for Goodrow, Blais and a full year of Kravtsov means we’re a bunch of talentless goons now who won’t be able to score. Forget a full year of Kravtsov and reasonable expectations of improvements from Lafreniere, Kakko, Chytil… this team has no offense now!

And swapping Smith and a rotation of Johnson, Bitetto and Hajek for Nemeth and Lundkvist, along with reasonable expectation of growth from Miller. Forget it.

Full season of Shesterkin?

Can’t you see this team has downgraded in every way possible and we should all be picketing the upcoming season before free agency has even begun?

We’ve swapped Howden and Blackwell for Blais and Goodrow. Kravtsov is the Buch “replacement”. As was always going to be the case.

We’ve swapped Smith and Hajek/Bitetto for Nemeth and Lundkvist.

We’re a better team, with hopefully a better coach.

I like this. It all reads a bit like Kevin Klein. Good job.

*reading thread now, I see the Klein comp was dropped as well on page 1. Smart minds.

Ok I just happened to be browsing this thread but what on earth? Schmidt is still really good. The contract isn't amazing but it's certainly not retain and send picks worthy unless you are referring to bennings terrible negotiation skills in which case, fair point.
I wasn’t referring to his skills or his attitude (which is one of the best in the entire league).
My post is specific to the Rangers.
Drury traded a first line two-way RW also with a great positive attitude and loved by his teammates for Drury’s reasonings that their was only so many top 6 minutes to go around and he didn’t want Buchnevich talking minutes and blocking development of younger roster players.
This then would hold true for Nate Schmidt who has 4 years with a modified NMC.
Right now the Rangers have three young Left defensemen who all played last year and two more knocking on the door at doesn’t even count Lundkvist and Jones who both have and can play on the left side.
Nate Schmidt would be a great addition if his term was two years instead of 4.
No disrespect to the player.

The good news: this isn't a signing that will break the team. The bad news: this guy absolutely sucks.
