Post-Game Talk: Rangers @ Devils | 2/5/13 | 6 Goalie System Brah!

Voted for Richards, Miller, and Lundqvist.

Lundqvist because he played a huge hand in winning this game, just not for us.

This game was case in point for why there is no chance I would have signed Del Zotto to more than a bridge deal. What a horrific all around performance.

It’s pretty sad that as soon as the Rangers missed their few early chances (Stepan, Nash) and Henrique scored you knew the game was over. Have they battled back to take a lead all year? Toronto and that might be it.

8 min of PP in the first. 0-5 total. Unacceptable.

Hank and Gabby = time to wake up. Neither was “bad” but your best players need to be your best players.

DZ had his first bad game of the season, and all of a sudden he sucks again. Seriously?

Take a look at this article about a shortened season:

http://www2.macleans.ca/2013/02/02/randumbness-the-new-nhl-is-less-predictable-than-you-think/

According to Cosh, 73 games is a large enough sample to get an accurate reading on a team. After a 48 game season, the standings are not going to reflect who the best teams are.

It's going to be about getting into playoffs. From there, who knows what happens.

And after the season is over, we still need to remember how information-poor the 2012-13 league table will be. There will be teams falsely perceived as newly overpowering because they attained a high playoff seeding, and teams falsely perceived as being in crisis because they were at the bottom of their division.

Over a full NHL season, these days, luck ends up being still almost as important as ability.

And over a 48-game season… you can see where this is going. The final league table this year will be more a product of randomness than of talent.

It's been 9 games. Hardly a large sample. It's frustrating right now, and it may not be a pretty process, but give it some time. Even once the season is over, we're still not going to truly know this team's true ability.

Three things:

Gaborik - Richards - Nash needs to end. there's not enough hustle or defensive responsibility on that line.

Del Zotto was BRUTAL defensively. Absolutely BRUTAL.

Both of these problems will be eased when we have two of our most important players back in the lineup (Callahan and Girardi).

Staal, Stepan and Nash need to score on their chances in the first. At least one. PP also sucked obviously.
Didn't think Devils produced very much but they capitalized on the few chances they had.

this team has too much talent to be this bad on the PP. its as bad as renney's last couple of years and we had nobody on that team.

I know they are supposed to be professionals, But when you've been with someone for a while (The team and Torts). People can become complacent as relationships flourish. Firing Torts is the answer to shake things up, even if we may feel its not totally his fault.

I actually think this wasn't such a bad game overall. But the PP and finishing is beyond brutal. Add a few stupid turnovers and Hank not at his best and that's what you get.

Miller and Kreider looked great. And despite so many people ragging on him: Richards really looks like the only real NHL calibre center we have right now. Stepan is just atrocious, Halpern is useless offensively and Boyle was even benched by Torts. Miller of course could be another good one, but he played mostly wing.

Let's be honest: Avery would have beaten the **** out of Clarkson and scored a hat-trick in that game.

First star is definitely Del Zotto for taking a penalty to prevent the guido from getting a hat-trick.

Sean Avery: Elite sniper and world's most dangerous man.

That's a new one.

The main problem is that Gaborik, Nash, and Richards have been garbage so far this year. Not even close to living up to their wages and expectations. If those guys started to play well the powerplay wouldn't suck and the team would be scoring more on even strength.

I actually think Stralman was pretty good tonight. Or maybe everyone else was so bad that he stood out.

Yeah, IMO he was our best defenseman tonight. Hence why I voted for him (and Miller, Kreider obviously)
