OK, I will concede we have more cap room than I expected. Though I'm still not comfortable giving up this much on a guy who will play so little, I accept that we should still be able to make some deals to at least give us a chance of going beyond the 2nd round.

In my opinion, we need a bonafide top 6 LW. I don't like what we have down the middle either; ideally we could get a 2C as well. Stepan might well become a great #2 but right now he is just an ok one, and Richards has fallen off the face of the earth.

Have you been watching since Stepan was put with Nash? He's played like a #1c

We just traded for Nash. We don't have the assets to trade for 2 more top 6 players. I liked Weiss, but he's injured and out for the rest of the season. I also like Ribiero in Washington if they decide to blow it up, but IDK how realistic he is.

You can't denigrate his recent form. But really I'm not sold on him as an integral part of a Cup winning team this year. Cup winners are not usually this vanilla down the middle.

Stepan has improved each year. Richards will be your 1C and has won a stanley cup. Boyle should be your 3C but he has not played well. Halpern at 4C has been a bargain. The only weakness would be 3C. But even there Boyle has been getting better. He won a lot of his faceoffs tuesday night.

I know; I'm not too optimistic that we can get anywhere near where we need to be this year. We really don't have ample assets to trade away so we're really in limbo. It seems a lot like a setup year for a return next year with more depth and experience. We can't afford to stand still of course, because as long as we're on the bubble there's a chance and management should attempt to make the most of it.

Richards will be our 1C? Well he needs to start playing like one, and to assume he will is speculative to say the least. Stepan might well be our best C now, and that's no great thing. Boyle is a great 3C! For a team as top-heavy as Vancouver. However, we clearly need 3 lines of balanced scoring, and Boyle is just a shut down player. Halpern is fine.

well I agree with this.. unless Richards starts to play like a 1C, we're not gonna win the cup, but thats going to happen with pretty much any team.

Okay and give the damn guy some time to be the 1C. He was playing better when nash came back. You're that fan that wants constant results or else the sky is falling and we gotta make a move to make it stop.

Well he's had nearly 100 games now and the results are mixed so ...

Anyway, this thread is about Hamrlik specifically, so I'll leave it now to get back on-topic, also saving you the indignity of making any more wildly inaccurate statements about a poster you don't know.

The thread is about Mr. Hamrlik and how happy/mad we are to have him in Manhattan. :)

anyway, I think he will fit in just well with our D.. He played pretty good for Wash last year in the playoffs against us.

The sky actually IS falling.

There is scientific proof of this.

How can anyone NOT like this move?

We picked up a guy that can play reliable minutes on the bottom pairing and is a GIGANTIC upgrade over Bickel, Gilroy and Eminger, who were never NHL regulars and struggled to say in the NHL ranks.

We're obviously not getting the Roman Hamrlik of 96-04, but he's still a decent defenseman and has some miles left in the tank and we didn't have to give up a damn thing to get him.

Low risk, medium reward kind of move that could pay dividends and if it doesn't, oh well, you make another move.

For a second I thought I was in "Let's make vanilla ice cream" thread.

The only vanilla on this board is the quality of shots the Rangers take.

Hopefully Hamrlik doesn't fall victim to that.

They need another shooter from the right side. Hoping for David Savard from the Jackets. He would be cheap, young and is caught in a numbers game in Columbus.

Seventh D-man guy; he has barely played this season in DC and this may well be his final season as a player. I'm not too enamored with this transaction.

Honestly, I don't see the issue at all. We got him for nothing, expiring contract. If he sucks, waive him or keep him in case of even more injuries. If he can step in and be better than our other options at #6D then it's a great move.

he's that triggerman we need on the pp... see ya bickel!

I wouldn't go that far. Hamrlik isn't that mobile on the points, and he more or less plays the far left side at all times. A really good triggerman is a guy who can constantly shift on the points and adjust to the PPQB/Pk positioning...

He doesn't really shoot one timers all that much(not in a position to do so most of the time). He has a booming shot, but its easily contained if pker's stack the left side.

However, Hamrlik is good at driving to the net for rebounds from the left side. If he can draw PKers to stretch the box to the left, that will give wider shooting lanes to Richards/Nash/Del Z on their sides.

Hamrlik's success on the PP will be largely allowing Nash/Richards/Del Z more shooting opportunities. However, if Nash/Richards/Del Z are hesitant to shoot, his presence won't be worth a damn.

If the PP guys just constantly differ to Roman, it will be a mess since he doesn't really move into the high slot or shoot one timers. Hamrlik will shoot though if Pker's are giving him lanes, that is for sure.

My point is we are still going to be reliant on Richards/Del Z in shooting from the high slot. Hamrlik adds a dimension, but he isn't going to be a savior in and of himself...
