I think he most likely isn't going to be playing at all tomorrow given he's had no practices with the team, hasn't played an NHL game this year, Kreider could be back, and Brodzinski scored in that spot yesterday.
Maybe it’s not tomorrow but whenever he gets into the lineup. What’s the point in claiming him to not be in the lineup

To have someone to play that might have some potential and isn't a random AHL vet if they deal players between now and the trade deadline. I'd expect he gets in for Vesey at some point before then though now that Vesey isn't a PKer.

This is likely to be a situation where they brig him along slowly which actually fits in with the Rangers timetable overall as they take their time trading others

He is coming back from injury as well so he may be a guy where we see him for 2-3 games and then he sits a game or two as he inches his way back.

Like taking the chance on him and liked him a lot as a prospect just not sure where he slots in when Kreiders healthy. Better not be for Berard. Hopefully a Reilly smith trade is in the works

Ok now... play him on the PP... get him some points. And then flip him in the offseason.
Or sign him? I would love for the team to actually keep people that are successful here. Especially when they've been picked up for nothing.

Hey guys, coming in peace

Little background on Kaliyev

was hurt this year, was blackballed last year after asking for a trade. He was good-to-excellent in his role, but in typical Kings fashion was dicked around in favor of vets (Kings had to justify their poor investments on PLD and Fiala), and his confidence took a dump, and I'm sure you guys have an idea of what happens to scorers when they're moody/lacking confidence. One of his last shifts with the Kings he fired a one timer wide and promptly broke his stick in frustration. Dude just needs someone to believe and McLellan and Blake were both publicly f***ing assholes to him.

In short--enigmatic/moody/medium-maintenance. Needs to be deployed with responsible-ish players who can carry the puck because you don't want him lugging it anywhere. But better on the boards and great in cycle, one of the only Kings in recent history who can snipe even elite goalies from anywhere, and when he's feeling it he's an absolute weapon on the PP.

I had posted this on our forum the day of:

On a team full of two-way players, you can afford to use a Kaliyev on a line as such, where they were utterly dominant:

You see his numbers turn to shit when he was put with losers like PLD and when buried on the 4th line with 5 minutes per game and one shift per period

But in an effort to get their money's worth on several poor investments, they buried Kaliyev to forcefeed Fiala and PLD, and it's been all downhill since.

And funny enough, their numbers were better with Kaliyev than when force fed Fiala:

Maybe you don't want a sensitive player/personality to manage, or one you can't plug and play (especially if you're f***ing lazy like Koala), but the results were absolutely there when used correctly. Also don't forget around the same time he was in the top 10 in the league in power play productivity rate so it wasn't just 5v5 with Danault/Moore. When he was getting minutes, he was a factor. When he was buried, he wasn't. It's that simple--and sure we can make other observations about his pouting and 'drive' and whatever but the facts are the facts. Just another situation where they made a decision based on poorly-chosen vets over youth in order to justify a dogshit investment return.

I'm big on his upside as you can probably tell. At worst it's a fresh start and a free shot at a project. With some of the offensive talent you have on the PP especially, him being an option rather than THE option is going to open up some opportunities. Wishing him and you well.

Is he a 5 on 5 type of player? Rangers need more of that of player that can score when at even strength. Does he PK or PP at all cause more depth means more options and gives players rest when they dont kill penalties as much.

I wouldn't use him on the PK, and he's not GREAT in the dzone but JFresh pointed out he's good at getting the puck forward/out.

He's got great results 5v5 when with the right players; was excellent on our 2nd line with Danault Moore (and notably they were the 'shutdown' line), excellent on our 4th when it was Lizotte Lemieux, terrible with Fiala, terrible with PLD, terrible with Lewis, good-but-not-great with other youth (still getting established) like Byfield/Turcotte, not good results with Kopitar (though to be fair Kopitar needs a 'type' of player and Arty isn't it).

As you can see that's one of his major flaws, he's sensitive to linemates/deployment, and our prior coach was a dipshit about it.

Likely on his way out of the league but hey what ever. Maybe this is the rare situation where someone overlooked a player and he finds it here.

Saved us a f***ing whine fest from RF1994 on this end so if theres a silver lining, there it is.
No silver lining for me ;)

Staten Island! Nice
Homie!

Live on Staten Island from 2-13, then moved to Michigan. Born in Uzbekistan.

Judging by his photos on hockeydb and hockey ref, he’s a maniac. So that’s fun.
I also was born in Uzbekistan and still live on SI!

I know, Panarin goes back to his natural spot on the left wall, Zibanejad in the bumper, Kaliyev on the right wall.
Panarin is worse there, Kaliyev I believe is worse there, and running it through Panarin makes a righty in the bumper dumb dumb dumb. OG PP1 was the perfect puzzle. So I’m not cised.

he's 100% a guy you have to use correctly IMO but dunno that the Rangers will do that...

MIght not be bad on Chytil's line though neither Chytil or Cuylle are playmakers. But someone to just shoot the puck a ton would be nice

e: was just thinking this is like a cheap young Vatrano (obviously without the track record though). A shooter to just fire pucks is all I'd ask for right now.
