Ditto. This is what we should want to see with only 5 games left in the year. Some level of compete. Some level of belonging from 72 and 50. The rest is up to JG and his scouting staff over the summer to get us at least 2 impact future players in the draft. Or make a move for a guy like fox from Calgary.

To me it was a gutty performance by pretty much everybody and Ovechkin ain't going to get to his 50 goals off of us. There was one play where Pionk went out to block one of his shots on the penalty kill and then helped muscle the puck through Alex for another Ranger to clear the zone. That was an awesome play. He absolutely f***ed up at the end though but hey did we really need the points anyway? What are we going to do with them? Make the playoffs?

I truly believe that's why people want this draft to be a grand slam so bad.

I don't think this is a team that is completely devoid of talent. It just needs some good fortune and bounces going its way.
I agree. Good or bad this team is not gonna be sucking enough to get a top pick next year so was hoping we could draft in top 7/8 this year and hit a home run with one of our later picks. JG still has work cut out for him but so far so good. we have some rays of hope

I said before the deadline that I thought we had a good place to build upon. Not that it was enough by itself, but it wasn't 2004 either. I think we did a good job of adding to that at the deadline. Though it's still not enough.

This draft has the potential to help takes things up a level. We'll see if it happens.

Good game, bad result :)

you can see the mismatch in skill across the team, which should hopefully be rectified when we start adding players back into the lineup and work the offseason.

Andersson seems to play a really simple, but effective game. Would like to see him with some better (top 6) linemates. You can see the skill Chytil has but he's still pretty raw. Starting (and hopefully dominating) in Hartfird next season might not be the worst thing.

Pionk was good outside of the GTG. He does need to think through his passing out of the zone a bit more. Throwing it up the wall to 3 Caps isn't the greatest idea

Hank was awesome, especially in the 2nd

My point is and bottom line that Fast is not a top 6 player - it`s an AV thing among things.

There's going to be a lot of up and down, and I'm not talking about our players.

Prospect will go from being future first pairing defenseman, to spare parts in trades --- sometimes within the same game day threat.

They'll be over-projected, under-projected, hailed as beasts, and slain like animal sacrifices.

And like most things, the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

If you're implying that some (definitely not me!!!) are overrating Chytil, how DARE you sir!

I really like Andersson's game. He's not flashy, but he's solid defensively, and love that he parks he goes right to the front of the net.

Chytil shows a lot of skill.

You can see both of them get more comfortable as the games go on as well.

Shame that Pionk made such a mistake after playing such a good game. He's still a rookie and has a lot to learn. I'm not going to crucify the kids. They're going to make their mistakes. I think people here need to get used to things like that through the rebuild. It's going to be a lot of head scratching mistakes.

I also can't wait for AV to be let go. He can't coach a young team. Not playing Andersson or Chytil on the Power Play at this point in the season is inexcusable. He's great for a team that's ready to win, but not this one. We need someone that's going to work with the kids and let them play.

No shit.

He’s a goner in the off season.

You want Sather to step in as interim 7 game head coach just because ?

I’m annoyed they got the point.

We absolutely do. I think this rebuild, though in its early stages, has gone very well so far. Gorton accumulated some nice prospects and a ton of picks and the kids are playing well and competing. Some people on here expect this to be a long rebuild but I don't. The cup is ours in 3 years. :thumbu:

Here's the deal boys. Not even mad at all about the loss. Team played well. Hank was vintage King and as rebuilding teams often do, lost a game it should have won.

Team is in excellent position during this rebuild to be very competitive rest of this year and definitly next year. Withought knowing what Gorton is going to do at the draft in conjunction with head of scouting Gordie Clark who I have complete faith in to not f*** up at the draft, I think we'll head into next year with a very competitive team that no one will think is an easy mark like other notoriously rebuilding teams like the Sabres,Coyotes, Oilers of the world.

I have no doubt and this has to do with Gorton being thus far being a very good talent evaluator and a savvy trade master, we will be in the mix for a playoff spot next season and in two years back in the playoffs and the year after back in the mix as a top dog in the East.

What's crucial to me and something we need to do is somehow, someway find or trade for or sign in FA an elite sniper type of player. We have never had since Jagr left, a player who had the potential to score 50 goals or something close. That to me has been the reason for the most part why we haven't won a Cup even during all these great playoff runs we have had the past decade. We have to find a guy who can score the big goal at the crucial key time. We need to find our Patrick Laine. Who know's maybe Chytle will be the guy. But we need to get him. That to me is something I'll be looking for from Gorton as he orchestrates this rebuild which I am convinced will not be all to painful at all as we have a terrific foundation and core to build upon.....

The rebuild is in nothing yet.

Cheer up Hank. The future will be bright. You're here until 2020-2021. It better be bright by then lol. We need you to mentor the kids and Shesty.

It's not a dodge. I'm not saying get rid of AV this very second, I mean when the season ends. The guy clearly doesn't have a lot of patience for young players.

For next year I'd like Paul MacLean, Sheldon Keefe, or Jim Montgomery.

Oh yeah. He’s no longer needed. I thought you meant now for just the end.
