I'm not one for making predictions that doesn't involve superstitions and mentionings of black magic and live sacrifices, but I think the Stepan line that has Kreider and Nash to his sides will do very well. A lot better than KSZ.

KSZ line had no finish. Kreider was always the man down low left side spinning with puck, protecting it, throwing it to point man or letting Zucc cycle it behind the net some more. That line has been great but the goal production isn't there on most nights, even if they show.

Kreider can finish as well as anyone on this team other than Nash and maybe (at this point) Step who seems to make no mistake when he's in prime position with a wrister. Step though, is still a better playmaker than scorer. That's the beauty of a playmaker who has offensive instincts, knows where to be, and can finish.

KSZ was sort of a defanged wolf. It's still got some claws to injure but lacks the fangs to kill. Zucc is 75/25 a playmaker over scorer, step is 60/40 a playmaker though more talent than Zucc. Kreider needs to be our 80/20 finisher guy. On the KSZ line, There was a lot of possession but a definite lack of full control with the puck to make plays. Good defensemen won't let Zucc dance around and make that centering pass. Likewise, Step won't find an opening as easily and Most of the possession is kept to the outside.

Step and Nash has always been our best offense duo. That was the worry and hope during the Stepan hold out and I think it's been forgotten. Hagelin has speed that helps but Kreider going down the wing actually puts the fear in defensemen where as Hagelin just makes defensemen skate back harder. With finish, Kreider and Nash centered by Step will be great. It'll be great for Kreider to learn from Nash and his puck control, and movement using body while puck controlling to get to the center of the ice (instead of along the boards where he's been for the last dozen games).

Kreider has a better shot and better hands. The difference between Kreider and Hagelin IMO is that Kreider is a 1st liner when playing with skilled players, while Hagelin is a 3rd liner who can be a complementary player on a 1st line.

So, can we string together some wins now... or is that too much to ask for? The next 7 games are all pretty winnable if they could just avoid these terrible brain farts.

The media should have asked Torts why he felt the need to send his 2 goons out at the end of the game. In my mind that says a lot about him.

How much open ice will Step get with those 2 monsters on his wing? The guy has a good shot he has no excuses now to not score goals.

Small sample folks but Brassard has been playing much better. 5 points in the last 7 games and he's noticeable again. Unfortunately all the firepower is on Step's line, but Richards should be fine on the wing and Callahan still has a good shot and can go to the net. I feel like he had a decent game yesterday. BTW what happened to Hagelin? Dude is so streaky. He's our best player some games, you argue he was our best player with Kreider during that run we had. I wish he were more consistent. Dude flat out dominates sometimes. If he were more consistent IMO he can be a 60 point player. The guy at the beginning of the season created more offense than almost anyone on the roster. Compare the 2 Florida games.

Next day morning musings...remember Princess Leiea appearing by holographic image in Star Wars to Luke and Obi Won? Apparently a holographic monitor can be built for about $500 so why not install one in the dressing room and have AV switch it on pre game and show a ranting Torts to fire up the boys! How's that for motivation? Hey he wouldn't even have to wear the Darth Vader gear although that would be cool. Could start using it at home and maybe even bring it on the road if it's effective! I'm sure Roger Neilson would have looked into it.
Time to start a win streak...LGR!

Can't stop watching Kreider's third goal. The deflection to the post to the horn going off... beautiful.

Stepan had his best overall game yesterday. This season although he has put up points he has looked invisible through most games. Now i expect him to be much better with 2 gusy who he has great chemistry with

kreider gets 87 votes cause he scored 3, don't think all of them decided game, talbot gets 9 for stopping at least 20+ real scoring chances, rangers played swish chese D......

There's no more room on the Kreider bandwagon

That line better score tomorrow, or the change is a failure.

think outside the box...

who really had more of an impact on the decision of this game?

isn't that what matters most ?

is the glamour of something called a hat trick?

... how many minutes was kreider on the ice?

how much help did he have in scoring those goals?

how many legit scoring chances did talbot stop because of the odd man rushes and turnovers made in yesterdays game?

I don't buy the "Talbot has had easier starts" thing. Hank played vs Florida and Talbot just played vs Vancouver. Its more about balanced scheduling than anything.

I do think NYR played better in front of Cam. If this happens consistently it is an indictment of their effort and drive on a game-to-game basis. I remember Valiquette had great seasons just because he wasn't heavily pressured.

Don't worry. If Lundqvist played instead of Talbot, and the game had the exact same outcome, he wouldn't be saying any of that.

there is no way the out come of the game would have been same had lundy been in there, no way we would have taken so many chances offensively with lundy in there, we would have had to play more conservative... if lundy was havin a better year my response would be different! i give credit where its due regardless of what i feel about any player.

exactly! yesterday someone posted talbot gets more rest, who was the last goalie to shutout montreal there? giacomin!

Talbot does finally have an OK team in front of him, UAH is 0-13-0 this season with 1 goal for a game and 5 against, it wasn't much better when he was there. As AHL guys will say this is the first year in a while where Hartford has looked OK, Cam was holding down the line well.

When he gives up rebounds, our defenders are usually sharp enough to clear them away. Like 2k2 I think Talbot can be a consistent .910 guy in his career.

The difference between Big Valley and Talbot is that Valley let up embarrassing goals regardless of how well the Rangers played in front of him. He was almost guaranteed to let up 2 goals. Talbot has yet to let in softies like that.

I don't think Talbots success can mostly be credited to not being heavily pressured. 198 shots in 7 starts + 1 relief appearance would put him facing about 26.5 shots per game (if factoring for taking fewer shots in the relief appearance).

The most Valiquette played was 15 games 1 year. His best season was 2.19 GAA with a .916 sv% in 13 appearances (686 minutes). Talbot has already played 444 minutes. 4 more games and Talbot will = those minutes and so far his numbers are worlds better with a 1.44 and .944 sv%.

I believe the reflex's and skill level is there for Talbot to be a decent goaltender. He just has to continue to work on his positioning.

Valiquette had a 5 hole that made Birons miniscule.

I have no doubt he is better than Vally, but I also don't think he's a .944 goaltender, either. He does truly fit the mold of a new age NHL goaltender, though. And it's good to see that he is willing to handle the puck, this is something I value in goaltenders and get very frustrated when breakaways happen against Lundqvist when he could easily skate out and ice the puck.

I absolutely agree. I think if he were played on a regular basis at this point in time, his numbers would plummet. Who knows. Maybe he turns into a Corey Schneider and we can flip him for a much needed asset in a year or two.

I am surprised that the organization has not worked more with Lundqvist when it comes to puck handling. If they have and he is still this bad then that is a scary thought.

There is a definite link between these new-age deep-lying butterfly goaltenders and poor puckhandling. A lot of it is skating; standup and hybrid types skate more and are more comfortable out of the net, they rely more on mobility and less on side-to-side technique. It is no coincidence that guys like Biron and Brodeur were great with the puck, and guys like Luongo, Henrik, and Valiquette were not.

Talbot is one of the unusual ones who is very comfortable with it.

Seriously? We won by 3 goals. How many goals did Kreider have?

Talbot played well, but this wasn't a stolen game. He didn't go beast mode, or stand on his head. He had a good game. He shouldn't lose credit for it, he did his job.

Put your hilarious agenda against the best goaltender the Rangers have ever had aside.
