Well said. Kreider is very solid in front of the net, when he finds himself there.

For me, Kreider's problems stem from when he's anywhere but the front of the net. He doesn't have great hands/vision, but with his end to end speed and his size, there's no way games on end should be going by without him making an impact. It's been a motor/consistency thing with him since he came up, and it ain't changing now.

In his rookie season and maybe his second season I would have agreed with this but he's matured a lot since then and now doesn't dog it often at all. Every single player in the NHL cannot go full open for all 82 games, so to expect it from any player not named Crosby or whatever elite top tier player is totally unfair. IF CK is traded, this team and just about every fan of this team will regret it bitterly in the not-too-distant future.

He turned down a 7x7 deal from someone, Buffalo, I think. That's got to sting.

I'd have to try and find the article (paging @RangerBoy), but I'm pretty sure he was also quoted soon after he signed saying something like "I left years on the table, but if I perform well on this contract, I'll get an extension and it will be just like getting a 7 year deal." Again, just my rough recollection, but that has to royally suck for him, especially since he has a newborn and was, I imagine, looking forward to being close to his wife, new baby, and extended family when not on the road.

like life, there are no guarantees

fairness isnt a given either

He's going to get double paid. Someone will give him a show me contract...if he shows himself to be solid he'll get paid. He's gonna be fine.

I can easily see gms comparing Kreider to Lucic and Simmonds and saying no thank you.

First thing teams will ask themselves is why aren’t the Rangers resigning him?

Both Simmons and Lucic’s numbers and play started going downhill at 28 years old so it’s not out of the question teams show concern for Kreider. Maybe the Rangers will get something nice before or after the deadline but I don’t think it’s far fetched to mention Simmons and Lucic

The question “why isn’t [current team] signing him” did not exactly deter teams from giving egregious deals to Lucic ladd backes okposo etc

I think that would depend on whats coming back in exchange for Kreider.

the only thing I'll regret is not trading him at the draft

Sometimes you’ll see a player in a trade that makes you think “wow that was cheap!” And then 8 months or fewer later you’re like “oh, I understand now.”

See Wolski and Spooner. Throw in Frolov as a UFA for good measure.

That’s the point the other poster made about teams being wary and learning.

Hajek howden a first a potential 2nd first and namestnikov is not little for mcd and Miller.

It may not be enough or fair or somewhere in between...but I wouldn't call it little.
I’d easily call it fair when you look at the type of packags that often get traded.

When was the last time a team moved that many assets in one trade? The Duchene trade was a three way, so I wouldn’t say it’s very comparable. Maybe the Nash trade?

Either way, the point stands: we don’t see that many pieces moved very often. Gorton did a fantastic job in that trade, and it’s continued to look better and better. Just wait until Hajek is a great 2nd pairing D and Howden is a very solid middle-6 center.

The trade will be worth it just to hear same say Henrik Lundqvist, lundkvist and henriksson

would have been better off if the trade was just Hajek, Howden, the first and second rounder.

Over the course of his career he's earned $36.5 million. His agent gets 10% but still he's got 4 years of buyout money coming and another NHL deal if he can find a new team which will probably happen. All this at 30 years old. So unless he's just been throwing his money away there's no reason for him not to be fine financially for the rest of his life. Sure it's probably a blow to the ego getting dumped like that but most people who work have been hit with a whole lot shittier than that.

I have heard that so many times here in the last 3-4 years. The sky is falling without this player or that player.
