As excited as I am to see Skenes today, I would be more excited if we had even one of like the half dozen or so young offensive talents that say the Orioles have. It’s sickening how much better their outlook is than ours. And they went 178-368 from 2018-2021. Hell, even the Nats probably have a better near term future than us.

Skenes does this team some good, but not nearly enough. You need an ace as a playoff contender but we aren’t even close to that thanks to this pathetic lineup.

Skenes could come up as a 2-way player, hit like Barry Bonds and pitch like Randy Johnson on the Diamondbacks and this team would still suck.

BC lost way more than Littlefield or Huntington.

He is a specialist in losing.

But I guess Huntington's coaches were sucky to you so therefore the records don't matter lmao
Not sure what I just read. This post makes zero sense.

Polar opposites in draft philosophy. We load up on pitchers. They load up on bats. Unfortunately their front office has some of the best in the business.

I’d love to see us swing a trade with a prospect like Chandler for one of their hitters but their hitters are all one level up from Chandler.

I’m still high on trading for Taylor Ward but BC probably thinks we’re just super unlucky swinging the bat right now

This thread reacts even worse than the Penguins threads when they’re going through a slump

There are still 120 games left in the season and they’re 17-22 right now. Are the bats struggling right now? Absolutely, to the point where this team’s inactivity to address that is unacceptable. But is the sky falling because they’re not 27-12 to start the year? Of course not. They’re 3 games out of a wildcard spot right now, that’s it.

This is not saying the Pirates are fine right now, just have some perspective. The MLB season is long.

The trendline is 95+ losses.

Yes and that trend line can easily change because there are 120 games left in the season.

Sure. But when 10 of your hitters are hitting worse than Kevin Newman and there is no urgency or even acknowledgement that something must change, it is hard to not feel down.

Let's check in on this feeling in 7 days.

I think my concern is the lack of hitting and the lack of reinforcements behind what we currently have. If we were knocking the cover off the ball but the pitching was shaky I would feel a little better about our trajectory.

And just like the previous three GM’s, BC seems to have a tight grip on our prospects. Made even worse because there are holes at some positions where we don’t have a single prospect that plans to take a spot (like first base and right field).

Yeah I’m not trying to say things are great right now, so I don’t want it to come off like that. Still though, there’s so much time left in the year that I think some of the takes in here are over the top.

I am very concerned about the bats especially in the context of the Pirates dragging their feet with doing anything to address it. But the season is long and it’s not really a stretch to say that things could look way different in a month. There is upside with these hitters here that they’re clearly not hitting (namely Cruz, Davis and Suwinski), it’s just a question of whether they can actually perform to that upside.

With that being said though, I’m growing more and more over Suwinski at this point. I’m totally willing to be patient with Cruz and Davis, but Suwinski is going to be in DFA territory for me if he’s not hitting better in 2 months.

Weather not looking good for the game today.

Gonna suck to possibly see them try and get the game in, have Skenes pitch between for a little bit, then turn it over to the pen, after a lengthy rain delay.

Rather them just not start Skenes at all today, considering what the forecast shows. In fact, the game should be canceled. As it shows a small window from 4-5pm, then rain rest of the night.

I'm not a weatherman but I play one on the internet.

Warned everyone the day they announced it. Weather looked awful and it didn't budge. Ticket prices plunged yesterday and no chance it's even close to packed today.

Just cancel the game and play a double header tomorrow.

Even if they get the game started it will be suspended after an inning or 2 and Skenes will be robbed of a legit 1st start. His actual 1st outing would be during a weekday, which sucks.

Their starting pitching has even been good, but comparing to them is a waste because they’re a World Series contender and the Bucs don’t even look like they can match the 76 wins from last year unless they show semblance of an offense. But yep, superior management, new ownership and they even went out and got Burnes. The Bucs went out and got Rowdy. Want to see something depressing, compare his stats to Rhys Hoskins. It just sucks that’s how it is right now, they’re behind the curve and being in year… 5? With this management, and seeing where they are sucks.

Feel like they should try to find someone out there on offense, if they can. There may be some guys that can be dumped before the trade deadline too but not really seeing anyone they could get much for.

Not sure where everyone is seeing these dire forecasts. No rain after 3:00 in Pittsburgh until tonight on everything I’ve seen.
