If we have the slot, Porter should be in play, I don't think the Red Sox, Orioles, or Dbacks could afford him. There are also still several other good pitching options, and honestly I would really like it if we ended up with Jud Fabian.

He's an intriguing pick, saw him a lot for the next pick. No idea if this will bear out, but it might make sense to have him as a slot guy and pick someone else up with the next pick. It's weird how it gets now -- you could get your pocket picked for a guy who might seem slightly lower on the board, because there are certain players that only you can take, and where you take them doesn't matter (see: Chandler).

We have no idea what our slot situation is, so this move might even be a way to get a little more slot for the next one, if Johnson himself is slot, etc. In any case, I like the Harrington pick. Hoping we can grab Porter still but have a feeling the Rockies might be about to pick him. And they don't.

What is intriguing about Harrington is that he has a plus changeup. I like these pitchers who don't have outrageous velocity because it's easy to add that in development. Another college P I really like is Drew Thorpe, and Adam Mazur would also be a good pickup with the next pick.
Good lord, the baseball draft is so convoluted.

Yeah I mean who knows, it's possible that Porter has a 4M price tag and nobody can afford him so he'll go to school now, but basically Harrington seems like someone who could go off the board at any minute now, meaning that if we waited on him, we could lose him.

It's a pretty good indication that we really like him a lot. Honestly, I kind of like the idea of another solid #3 college type in Adam Mazur with the next pick. Get some more depth that can move a little bit quickly.

Why would a guy with top notch control, a high 90s FB, and a change-up that's said to be his best pitch be projected with a #3 ceiling?

The combination of turn-based drafting and also a set pool of $ that changes based on how many of your turns sign is certainly interesting. Which is a euphemism for silly.

I kinda wish we had auction drafts.

It's a fudge factor for "everyone has this level of stuff but we can't say that everyone could be a #1 starter."

I think it's probably that he doesn't have any clear top pitches, he just has 4 decent to good pitches. Just throwing hard doesn't necessarily mean your fastball is good.

Too early to nickname him Old Reliable?

I guess I assume a guy with great control has better than decent/good pitches. Maybe he's lacking movement?

Barcode seems like a reach.

Wasn't Barco a projected 1st rounder at some point in the past? Maybe it's just me mixing up OOTP with real life, but I remember he was projected as a 1st rounder in the past. Yeah, I just read he was a fringe 1st round caliber guy in 2019 that was firmly committed to going to college, and he was projected to be a riser that would be a high 1st rounder in a few years.

From his college stats, you can clearly tell he's a strikeout heavy guy and I know he has a nasty FB/SL combo.

Sounds like it.

I'm fine with Barco, kinda seems to point towards the fact that we aren't saving much with Johnson, which I can totally live with. I would rather have gotten Prielipp, but I think Barco is probably partially a floor guy with that nasty slider (as a reliever).

If Barco comes back as a starter, I like what it signals in terms of wanting to get guys on a slightly faster timeline. Not sure I like the crossfire delivery, but Johnson + pitching depth is what we wanted. I really hope a guy like Mazur or Ford is there when we pick at 83.

Cubs immediately grab the upside guy in Ferris. It looks to me like Porter is going to school.

Honestly, I question Barco over Prielipp. Both have reliever risk, but Prielipp seems like the bigger swing, and not someone who would need to have the budget blown on. We'll see... maybe there's a little gamesmanship for an over slot deal at 83. Pick value is only 770K, so in order to get another 2-2.5M guy, we would need some haircuts to have already happened, but that's sometimes how the game works.

Twins just took Prielipp, probably going to be lots of runs on the pitching now, but maybe there's something interesting like Fabian who falls to 83 tomorrow.

If Johnson hits the rest of this draft is gravy.

I am more certain of this pick than any 1st rounder we've taken in a decade. Not to say he's a better prospect than Davis - it's likely neck & neck - but that was unequivocally the correct pick.

I don't hate grabbing a good righty arm and an interesting lefty multi-inning reliever afterwards, even though they weren't the highest rated on the board.

The real bummer is the guy isn't going to pitch until probably this time next year, maybe August. So essentially his first long run in pro ball will be 2024. Slightly annoying. Prielipp is almost fully recovered. It's possible he could get some late innings in and be fully ready to rock next spring. Bucs must not have seen it or Prielipp wants a lot more than Barco, which is feasible given their difference in ranking.

Harrington is at least quite intriguing. Funny i shit on Campbell (Neto) earlier in regards to the 4th overall, and here we go and take their best arm! :D It seems like there is some upside.

Johnson is the draft. If he does what they project, it's a win.
