I thought it'd be Collier but obviously wanted, along with DJ and others, Johnson at 4. Really, really happy right now.

Definitely agree, given he was mocked as high as 1, that we'll probably only shave a little off the slot, if any. I'm hoping for 6.5 (about 500k) but if it is slot, who cares, as DJ said.

The best HS bat in the draft and if you believe the projections, the best bat period.

Would be stoked to get Termarr Johnson @ 500k under slot. That seems like a good deal for everyone.

An interesting question now is how far Collier could fall. Reminiscent of Watson last year. I suppose the Mets could be a good landing spot. Can't imagine he would get to 36, and there's no way we could give him more than about 3M, even with a little shave on Johnson.

Mets are going Parada at 11. They seem like the main team who could flex the muscle to also get Collier, though I expect Collier's ask might have to come down. Another option would be the Rockies, since you figure Hughes will be under slot, but I honestly don't see a lot of scenarios where Collier can get over 4ish. Even for the mid-round or late-round teams, it's hard for them to get flexibility unless they punt their next pick, and that's not a popular thing to do.

Maybe the team who could sneak in and do it is the Braves, since they got that extra comp pick in the trade last week. Their MO has been to go with an under slot pitcher and then pump up the picks later, but maybe they see an opportunity here.

Otherwise, it could get interesting. Longenhagen doesn't seem to think Johnson takes any kind of deal, but with the way the picks unfolded after us, maybe he didn't know where his floor was and we were able to get one at the last minute. It's too much of insane homer brain to even entertain the idea that we could somehow float Collier to 36, but it wouldn't be too unlike Chandler, honestly.

I’m loving what I read about this kid. Hopefully he pans out. Is he considered a better prospect than Davis was with last year’s 1OA?

About the same, but most places have Druw Jones a tick ahead of everybody from last year. For reference, Fangraphs currently has Davis 25th and said Johnson would slate at 27th.

Looks like the Mets are going to take Jett Williams with their second pick, which is not a surprise. Longenhagen says people have texted him saying Collier will go to school now. I think it would take 4-4.5M to get him to sign.

Longenhagen said he doesn't think Termarr will cut much of a deal, FWIW.

I don't care too much. I think there's a decent bit of a gap between Johnson and Green/Collier in terms of risk. Say what you will about moving to 2B, but hit tool = floor, and floor is the appeal to the college players. Collier is nice, but his swing needs work and his position is also murky. Green would be an enormous risk.

I think just setting side slot stuff, Johnson was the best case scenario for us, and ideally, we stick him at 2B and get him moving through the minors pretty quickly.
On the locked on pirates podcast live stream they said he was the cheapest prep signing for all the prep guys

Looks like Collier will go to Cincy.

The pick to root for to slide into the sandwich round is Brock Porter. Have to think a team will snatch him up here, but if he gets by the Braves, maybe we can outmuscle everyone else. I'd love Noah Schultz too, and on the college side, Prielipp is still around, as is the giant Vandy OF with huge power, who would make for a great pick IMO.

Gwynn has been used as a comp with this kid's bat. Would be unbelievable.

It sounds like this guy is a hitting prodigy. Maybe not with power but just pure hit tool. I still think hit tool rules everything so I'm 100% down with this. LFG!

Does Collier sign? Hmmm.

Longenhagen said he's heard a 5M bonus, so they probably have a deal in place already.

Things are shaping up well for us. Cooper Hjerpe, Brock Porter, Ian Ritchie, Eric Brown, Jackson Ferris, Spencer Jones, Brandon Barriera. Lots of talent still there.

Really seems like we're going to get a nice P with one of the next 2 picks. And I wouldn't be against going SP/SP with 36/44.

Doyle has connections...

So whose middle infielder they trade for pitching over the winter is Gonzalez Bae still bucket talent 1 of near untouchable

Yeah Gwynn Albies Vlad as hitting comp and bat to ball placement is crazy

Longenhagen has most of the picks in the FG chat a few mins before they are announced if you want to be spoiled.

Brock Porter would be a major coup. He's like a top 10-15 talent, so to walk away with him and Johnson would make the other picks gravy.

Cardinals getting Hjerpe makes a lot of sense. Wonder if we'll see a run on the pitching now.

I don't want to be spoiled on the Bucs pick haha.

Some good arms starting to roll off now. Porter would indeed be a huge steal based on the consensus rankings out there.

If Porter is one, I'm on the take another lefty train, ala Solometo last year. We are soooo thin on left handed P prospects. Have been literally forever and you have Prielipp, Snelling, Ferris, Schultz....

The big pick to watch is probably Colorado, with their Story comp pick immediately after the first round ends. We should be able to take whoever we want after that, though who knows what the Braves pool looks like, and it's also possible Johnson is at slot. We'll know when we see the pick, but it's still shaping up to be a good situation.

Porter is the best I think, but I kinda want us to nab Prielipp. Heard really good things about his bullpens and am a little surprised he didn't get taken. I would be surprised if the Rockies don't take one of the pitchers, though there are a lot.

I'm not sure what they need or what they think they need. Based on their recent actions they may be shorting their whole cohort of hitting prospects at the upper minors and pushing the timeline to 2025 at the earliest. In that case I don't see a win-now move I like.

For the likes of Bae and Marcano, it's about being able to move to the OF and actually hit well enough to be 2+ WAR players. Not just light-hitting, plus defensive 2B bats that can kinda fake it in the OF.

I'm inclined to hold onto this whole logjam and let it play out.

Looks like there's a run on pitching now. Still lots of options, but one player I'm surprised is on the board is OF Drew Gilbert. He'd be a great pick -- don't overthink it, best player on the best college team in the country. All around OF, would be another good mix of floor and upside.

I was thinking more about flipping them for pitching prospects. I do think they will explore position flexibility as much as possible like the Rays and Jays. I don’t think the time line is 25 if burrow presiter are up next June they can compete for the WC 8 teams make the playoffs

Grabbed by Houston.

We're in good shape for a pitcher and I think the board really leans that way. Porter as the top option, with Prielipp and Ferris also there as backups. I would love to see one of those three and then Ford or Mazur with the third pick. If we get Jones, it will be such a nice coup that the third pick can be punted for all I care.
