Yeah he hasn't been too sharp. In the first, it just seemed like they were on him and he was getting no whiffs or even flinches, which is a rarity. Slightly better second there but still needs to dial it in some. Wouldn't be surprised if it's just 4 and done tonight.

That's where Cruz is going to need to be better. 2-0 and you chase a bad pitch down, then pop put on another one wide of the mark. Make the P throw you strikes.

Swarmer throws a good # of batting practice pitches.

Perez finally turned one around.

A good reason to be bullish on him is that he's got a very strong plate approach. This has been a big leap in his game over the past two seasons, where he only very rarely gets himself into bad counts with poor swing decisions. I've even seen a lot of ABs just anecdotally where he chases with a bad swing and then locks it in and keeps fighting in the count.

And there's the easy 70 speed.

Cubs are absolutely worse than us.

Yep. You saw the adjustment from that first AB to the second one. Got overzealous in a hitters count and realized Swarmer is simply not going to throw him a heater the 2nd time by.

I think the only weakness I see with Cruz's hitting is that he's impatient at the plate. I don't know if it's a bad eye as much as it is him really not wanting to take a walk.

I will say that I'm confused for why FG has his hitting tools so low. They have him at a 30/40 hit tool but I don't see a justification for why he'd be that low. He will never be a big time contact guy but he's been a .275 hitter through the minors.
